Despite sentimental appeal in the Australian market, Sony's initial "boomerang" PS3 controller always reeked of funky concept design for funky's own sake. Now that we know Sony "doesn't do gimmicks" (unless stolen from Nintendo) It's little wonder the "Croc" has been tossed, never to return. Here's to the last burst of creativity Sony ever had.

If it ain't broke...
The DualShock was a great design, why change it. This isn't going to win anybody over with its brand new design, but it's not a bad controller.
I only say that I think the 360's controller is the best of this generation because the DualShock is not a brand new design, and the Wii's is just plain stupid. ;)

By saying they don't do gimmicks and then making a half-assed attempt to imitate the Wiimote, they are effectively admitting that the Wiimote isn't a gimmick but a necessary step forward in controller design (which it is). The difference is that Nintendo have created something with 3D input in mind from the start, while the PS3 controller is nothing but a three-generation-old Nintendo controller with a decade of Nintendo imitations tacked on.

Yes, keep that beautiful dual shock design. I like to bump my thumbs together while playing my first person shooters. No need for analog triggers, if my racing games get any more advanced than "stop" and "go", I might have a coronary.
Innovation could lead to change. when you're number one in the industry, you just might fear change.
