Bodyslam these TNA iMPACT! screens

Total Nonstop Action Wrestling has pushed itself to the limelight for wrestling fans and a suitable contender for title-belt raising WWE crowd. Midway, agreeing with TNA's ladder-climbing popularity, have scooped up the franchise and is set to release TNA iMPACT! in order to compete with THQ's WWE series later this year.

Today we bring your six fresh screens of the upcoming Xbox 360 and PS3 release, complete with body slamming action. While we can't say for sure which franchise looks like the true number one contender, we wouldn't mind watching these two go at it in a winner-takes-all cage match.

Note: Bonus points for anyone who can name all of my horrible wrestling references in this story.

Smackdown vs. Raw '09 tags in with debut trailer

We didn't know wrestling was still popular enough to warrant an annual release, but over the weekend THQ dropped the trailer for WWE: Smackdown vs. Raw 2009. The video showcases the latest feature for the upcoming title, co-op story mode. While we're sure there is still a group of fans clamoring for a "chair-shot to the face" good time, we wonder if we really need another WWE game every year? Madden's annual release already gets us annoyed but we understand the reasoning behind it, but does including one new addition and swapping some characters in the roster really need another $60 price tag?

In defense of Rumble Roses XX

Is it just me, or does Alex Navarro's joyless video review of Rumble Roses XX (6.6 out of 10) sound like it was delivered with the knowledge that his Mom would be tuning in:

It creates the same unseemly vibe as [the previous PS2 game]. The girls in the game are very much objects of affection. They don't have any personality to speak of. They don't say much...They're there to dance for you, to shake their asses, to jiggle their chests in front of you and they've gone so far in this game to let you dress them up in outfits and have them pose in sexy ways and take photos of them and trade them with people online. It's gone to that next level of softcore porn where, you know, adolescent boys, they're gonna love it, but if the whole idea of dressing up polygonal women and having them jiggle their parts in front of you makes you at all uncomfortable, you're gonna hate this game.

Oy, next he'll start complaining about the booth babes at E3.

If I want to be told that dressing up digital dolls in schoolgirl outfits and forcing them to do jumping jacks is "unseemly,"  there are plenty of sources I can turn to for that sentiment. Like say, every woman on the planet. This review is sort of like listening to your girlfriend whine about the lack of plot in Buttman Goes to Rio.

Gameplay issues aside, I think the developers accomplished exactly what they set out to do with RRXX: create a fetish-friendly female wrestling title with great graphics that oozes sex appeal and bizarre Japanese kink. Give them some credit for staying true to that vision.

And if somebody tells you you're a perv for getting your sick thrills from a pixelated girl in a leather thong, remind them that staring at John Cena's perfectly rendered nipples as he crotch locks a sweaty Rey Mysterio isn't an improvement—at least if you're straight.

New Rumble Roses XX trailer bounces

Konami has released a long ass  trailer for Rumble Roses XX including gameplay/create-a-babe footage and...bouncy balls. God bless the Japanese and their fetishes.

Rumble Roses XX screens kick ass

I'll never forget the look of disgust on my wife's face as I sat on the couch playing DOA Beach Volleyball. I got the exact same look when I showed her the latest screenshots from Konami's soft porn wrestling extravaganza, Rumble Roses XX. The first Rumble Roses game on PS2 got middling reviews, but the the hands-on previews from IGN and TeamXbox report that the sequel is packing beefed up wrestling gameplay and plenty of next-gen T&A. Could be worth a purchase in the Spring, depending on your lack of shame.

Wrestle Kingdom finally ready to rumble

After being pulled from Japanese shelves at the last minute, Japanese wrestling game Wrestle Kingdom will make its triumphant return to shelves January 19th. If any gamers were lucky (unlucky?) enough to get a buggy copy off store shelves, they will be able to exchange it for the updated version.

Wrestle Kingdom pulled at the last minute

Microsoft were hoping to finally make a splash in Japan with wrestling title Wrestle Kingdom, due for release today. Unfortunately, it had to be withdrawn at the last minute due to a bug involving the hard drive--problems detecting the amount of free space meant that game saves weren't working properly.

There's no ETA on the game's launch as of yet. Since some games launched with save game problems, maybe this is a general problem with the 360, or maybe some developers are less diligent than others.
