More MM9 nuttiness; USK rates the game for 360

Will the back and forth never end? It's multiplatform, then it's not, and now it looks like it is again. With no official word from Capcom, this new Mega Man 9 news of course has only as much credence as the first OFLC rating. But we really don't think that government game rating boards are in the habit of making up games or confusing which controller and console they're using, regardless of what country the ratings board is from. Though there is just one little thing that makes this whole situation more of an oddity. Our multilingual readers will already have noticed, but the USK strangely lists it from the genre of, ahem, "Role playing." Weird.

German Ratings Board reveals a slew of XBLA titles

Having revealed games before, the German games rating board the USK is at it again, exposing previously unknown XBLA games. Shown over at xblah.net there are a myriad of titles across several genres, but the most stand out title would have to be a virtual version of the classic board-game Ticket To Ride in which players compete to build railroads across the countryside. From the sound of things it'll be similar to the conversion from the board game version of The Settlers of Catan and the XBLA version, Catan.

The other titles rated by the USK include the Penny Arcade XBLA game, the puzzler RooGoo, and a golf game entitled Golf: Tee it Up! Not only that, but there were also a few more games revealed by the American ratings board, the ESRB. Those two games were the ancient computer game Lode Runner, and the card game simulator Gin Rummy. None of these titles are official of course, but as with all games revealed in this fashion we must remember that rating's boards are not in the business of making of games, nor is having a game rated at all cheap. This is great news though, and should portend the approaching release of said titles. With such an ever expanding library of titles it seems XBLA is really coming into it's own, catering to a variety of demographics and hopefully with something for everyone.

USK lists Warhammer: Mark of Chaos for 360

Ah, the Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle, better known as the USK or, simply, the German version of the ESRB. We love 'em. Why? Because they constantly tip us off about games that publishers work so darned hard to keep secret. For example, the USK has now listed Namco Bandai and Black Hole Entertainment"s Warhammer: Mark of Chaos for the Xbox 360. A real time strategy title that debuted last holiday to decent reviews, Mark of Chaos would be yet another addition to the Xbox 360's burgeoning RTS library. The 360 game has another subtitle tacked onto it, making the full title actually Warhammer: Mark of Chaos -- Battle March. Whether this means we'll see a completely retooled game or an expansion to the original we're not sure. In an interesting twist, the entry on in the USK database is labeled "GC-Demo" which would lead us to believe we'll see a Mark of Chaos demo before too long. Once again, thanks USK!

USK: Switchball rolling to Arcade

The Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle is losing self control (Uh oh; ding!) over revealing games existence prior to their official announcements, and the latest is Switchball, which Xbox-Archiv.de has found the rating for on the USK's site. The video above is the trailer for the PC version, and it seems reminiscent of Marble Blast Ultra, which isn't a bad thing, especially if it brings a new flavor to the table. According to an Xboxic reader (link below), and the PC version's demo has 12 Achievements listed in the menu, so that makes this all the more likely to be true.

USK removes Marathon 2 rating for 360

Either we spoke too soon, or Microsoft's ninjas are pretty damned quick. X3F readers will recall that the USK (essentially Germany's version of the ESRB) rated Marathon: Durandal for the Xbox 360 last week. This led us to assume that our wild speculation from last November was true, and that Marathon was making its way to Xbox Live Arcade. Now, it looks like something is amiss. We checked the USK listing during our weekly Fancast recording session on Sunday, and lo and behold, the listing was gone (gasp!). No, really, check for yourself.

So, here's the question: was the USK hallucinating, or has Microsoft demanded that the USK lower the veil of secrecy on what should have been a top-secret project?

Leaky ratings board confirms Tetris Splash

Another game has lost its big announcement thunder as the USK (the German video game ratings board) posted confirmation that an XBLA game called Tetris Splash exists. What is Tetris Splash and why is it so splashy? We aren't sure, but we know that the game is coming to the XBLA and should be a relatively simple form of Tetris. Cheap Tetris rocks. And while we're at it, we should totally keep track of how many times the ESRB and USK have tipped us off to Arcade games before they officially get announced. The total has to be in the hundreds ... or at least it feels that way.

USK rates Bungie's Marathon for 360

Last November, just prior to Halo's birthday, we (wildly) speculated that Marathon might be heading to Xbox Live Arcade. Obviously, we were incorrect ... then. It seems our precognitive powers were even more potent than we realized, as Marathon, Bungie classic and spiritual predecessor to Halo, has been rated by the USK (Germany's ratings board) for the Xbox 360. To be precise, the entry is for Marathon: Durandal, which is actually Marathon 2. This leaves us to wonder whether the original will make the jump as well. Already our minds are reeling with yet more speculation. Will Marathon: Durandal receive a graphical upgrade? Will we see each game in the series hit Xbox Live Arcade, leading up to the inevitable release of Halo 3? We have no idea, but we hope we'll be hearing more soon.

Just the thing for XBLA: solitaire!

Our favorite European ratings board, the Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle (say that three times fast), has rated a game called Soltrio Solitaire for the Xbox 360. We're not exactly itching to plunk down $60 for a game of Solitaire, so we're assuming that this title is bound for Xbox Live Arcade. XBLA is already host to several card games, but solitaire is currently absent. Would anyone out there be interested in a solid solitaire game on Xbox Live Arcade?

For the record, Track & Field has also been rated.

Dead Rising? Not in Germany

Another news bit from the 'stiq, Gaming Bits reports that the Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle (USK) -- Germany's software ratings board -- will not approve Capcom's undead sandbox title, Dead Rising. If true, this would be the first 360 title to be banned anywhere.

So, let's see. Lederhosen? No problem. Industrial death metal? Fine. Zombies? That's crossing the line!
