Shipping this week: Rock Band 2 Unleashed edition

The big releases are starting to drip out as the industry steadily ramps up for yet another packed holiday season. This week, the Xbox 360 plays host to some decent titles including the likes of Rock Band 2, Pure, and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. On top of those, we've also got Armored Core: For Answer and ... um ... Battle Fantasia. To our disappointment, we have learned that Battle Fantasia is not a fighting game about the Disney movie Fantasia. It's a shame, really, because we were ready to throw down with some tutu-wearing hippos.

Weekly Deals: Gears PC $15 and free tees galore

Update: Toys R Us has their own Force Unleashed offer, giving away a $20 gift card with an in-store purchase of the game. (Thanks Jonathan)

We're trying something different this week with our analysis of the week's best gaming deals. We're going to present them in one, long, run-on sentence that may or may not be readable. So, here we go ...

There's a free t-shirt with a Force Unleashed purchase at Best Buy and over at Circuit City they have a free t-shirt and $5 gift card with Force Unleashed, free t-shirt with Rock Band 2, 10% off all Rock Band accessories, Gears PC for $15, $5 off a 12-month Xbox Live subscription, and $10 off a wireless adapter which, again, are ALL deals at Circuit City with absolutely nothing going on at Target this week. PHEW! Deep breath and now it's time to pass out on the kitchen floor.

Lucas unleashes Force Unleashed demo to XBLM

Today is the day our Star Wars: The Force Unleashed demo hopes and dreams finally come true. Because today is the day the 904MB Force Unleashed demo releases to the Xbox Live Marketplace for all to enjoy, that is if you're packing enough HDD space and are connected to Live. If both conditions are true for you then you'll be unleashing the force in the TIE Fighter Construction Facility in no time. Give the demo a download and share with us what your gut gaming reaction is.

Force Unleashed demo attacks the XBLM this week

Just as Lucas Arts promised us back in July, a new Star Wars: The Force Unleashed demo will be released to the Xbox Live Marketplace this week. More specifically, on the morning of Thursday, August 21st. Also as promised, the Force Unleashed demo will include a tutorial mode to master the Force Grip power and a complete level of gameplay set in a TIE Fighter Construction Facility where we're guessing a bunch of objects explode real good. May the force be with you (and also with you).

[Thanks, to everyone who sent this in]

Force Unleashed demo unleashes to XBLM in Aug.

The possibility was discussed months ago and now forceunleashed.org has learned that Lucas Arts' own marketing manager Matt Shell has confirmed that a Star Wars: The Force Unleashed demo will be releasing to the Xbox Live Marketplace sometime next month. Interesting too is mention that the demo will feature a different experience than the game itself, with a remade Tie Fighter Construction Facility, extra force powers unlocked and a special conclusion to the level that isn't seen in the retail version. Force Unleashed, good or bad? We'll give you an answer next month.

Force Unleashed launch trailer; minor spoilers

Those of you who really care about "spoliers" should shy away from this Force Unleashed trailer knowing simply that the game is looking good. For those who can see these type of "twists" coming a mile away (it is Star Wars after all) the spoilers won't really matter. Plus, we're sure there's even more too come and we can't help but be distracted by the wooden voice acting of the apprentice's love interest.

Star Wars Battlefront III appears on Amazon

And, naturally, it was taken down. Thankfully, the internet is always there to catch the truth. However briefly, a listing for Star Wars Battlefront III was up on Amazon announcing that the game was coming to every platform under the sun including our beloved Xbox 360. Amazon was offering the game for pre-order with a release date of March 15, 2009. Something tells us that date is probably a placeholder.

With Battlefront series creators Pandemic currently hard at work on Lord of the Rings: Conquest for their new bosses at EA, the question remains as to who will develop the third installment of the series. Joystiq surmises that it will be UK studio Rebellion, which was responsible for Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron for the PSP. Assuming the 2009 release date is even close to accurate, it looks like we'll have quite a while to find out.

The Force Unleashed story video

First and foremost, if you're interested in not having anything at all spoiled regarding the story behind Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, don't watch the video. Just keep reading. If you're actually sane though and really couldn't care less just hit play already!

To tell you the truth, our feelings regarding the game are still rather mixed (the gameplay portions of the video still look a bit uninspired) but this clip definitely convinced us that the story is more than just something to skip past. Considering we were already sold just based on the game's tech crap, we're much more excited for the game than we were before.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed demo to be unleashed

Speaking to VideoGamer.com (most straightforward website name evar), Star Wars: The Force Unleashed producer Cameron Suey revealed that a demo for the game is definitely in the works. Suey stated that LucasArts "definitely want to get it out there," noting, "the gameplay itself is so engaging, people who aren't Star Wars fans or who aren't even hardcore gamers, once they get their hands on some of the gameplay and how it works, are really going to be won over by it." Strong words to be sure. No details were given regarding when the demo will actually be available. Presumably, it will arrive shortly before or just after the game launches in September.

Darth Vader playable in Force Unleashed

Is making Darth Vader a playable character even a bonus anymore? Regardless, we're sure Star Wars fanboys out there will be happy to know that Darth Vader is indeed playable in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. Darth is playable in the first level of the game, in which he travels to Kashyyyk and locates the boy that will become his secret apprentice. For those of you keeping score, said secret apprentice is the actual star of the game. Darth Vader comes complete with the Force powers you'd expect, most notably Force choke, which he uses to ... um ... choke people. Check out the video above for the first gameplay footage of the Sith Lord in action.

Star Wars video game announcement next weekend

GameTrailers.com recently posted a tease about the next installment of their formerly weekly show, GameTrailersTV. The tease hints at an exclusive look at The Force Unleashed as well as excursive announcements set to be revealed on (what else?) SpikeTV a week from tomorrow (April 6). With so many different sub-IP's of Star Wars (see right) the supposed announcement could be all sorts of things. If it's as big as hinted it could be a whole new game, though with so many to choose from getting our hopes up for anything specific is just jumping the gun. Still, the Star Wars video games definitely need a fresh jolt of fun, and if this is a new game from one of the existing properties it would certainly fit with what Lucasarts has said in the past about continuing franchises.

Robot Chicken: Star Wars debuts on U.S. XBVM

We have exciting news for Robot Chicken fanboys today as the special Robot Chicken: Star Wars episode is available for purchase exclusively through the U.S. Video Marketplace. We say exclusively because you can't purchase the episode stand alone or on DVD anywhere else. And really, if you have your DVD pre-order already in we'd probably recommend canceling it. Not only will you have to wait until May 20th for Robot Chicken: Star Wars to hit DVD status (ouch!), but you'll also be paying a lot more. Right now you can get the episode from the XBLM for the standard 240 Microsoft point price tag saving you about $7. May the force be with you!

Rumor: KOTOR III Concept Art?

Long the source of many rumors and much speculation, the possibility of KOTOR III being a real project just became a bit clearer. With the rumor mill spinning anew, we bring you latest loose talk, that is, possible KOTOR III concept art. Discovered in a hidden folder on the concept artist's website, the art showcases everything from main characters to droids and ships. Now when we saw that news for the first time, we got excited, thinking this had to be real, that no one can fake good concept art. Well, this stuff is the real deal, but perhaps not in the way we would have wanted. See, it's dated from almost four years ago, in early/mid 2004. Now a quick wiki check reveals that KOTOR II was released in 2005, and that much of that game was left on the cutting room floor to ensure a holiday release. So in all likelihood these concepts are from that game, just never used. Still, it's nice concept art, and we'd love to be proved wrong, as we've said before: Bioware + Mass Effect tech + KOTOR IP = Massive Win.

GDC08: The Force Unleashed - Producer Interview

In the aftermath of GDC and the releasing of more Force Unleashed information, the game's Producer, Cameron Suey, sat down (so to speak) with the guys from Gamersyde and gave them a bit of an insight into the development of the newest entry in the Star Wars saga. The interview contains no bombshells, but has plenty of interesting little tidbits, such as the reveal of some limited RPG elements, discussions of the game's enemies and their abilities, as well as talk of the new tech, the DMM, and Euphoria. Check the video out if you're at all interested in the game, as Cameron does have some interesting anecdotes about the gamplay. Set to be released this summer, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is really starting to shape up well, and we just can't wait.

And as with the previous gameplay videos, sorry in advance to readers who are having issues with slow loads. We still love ya'll.

BioWare working on proper KOTOR sequel?

A new KOTOR game was seemingly announced at an EA Analyst Meeting this morning. At the meeting a list of what were previously BioWare/Pandemic-owned studios was presented, along with the games in production at each. While there are a myriad of games on the list, the BioWare-developed list is the most interesting by far, as the contents address a host of rumors and speculation. It seems that BioWare is developing not only an MMO but a real sequel in the KOTOR series. As KOTOR fans We can't think of anyone we'd rather have develop the third (and one might think last; trilogies and all) game in the KOTOR series than BioWare. Great news, but what does this mean about the "New MMO"? Is it Star Wars based? Is it something totally new? BioWare has had success with new IP lately ... dare we say Mass Effect MMO?
