Gametrailers posted a four part series detailing all aspects of Radical Entertainment's Prototype and even included some new gameplay footage to boot. The first of four videos (embedded above) showcases some of main character Alex's abilities, how he uses his shape shifting abilities to kill and what destruction can be dished out. In the other three Prototype videos (viewable after the break) you'll hear the dev team talk about the game's Artistic Vision, Environmental Interaction and the Story of Alex Mercer. It's a lot of Prototype info, a lot to take in and we think you'll enjoy what the team has done with the game. Still, we wish they would have kept co-op ...

X3F Impressions: Prototype

Whether it has co-op or not, Prototype is definitely the spiritual successor to Crackdown. Unlike Crackdown however, we were immediately struck by the movement of the character, which was highly acrobatic and felt surprisingly natural (as natural as someone running up building faces can be). And the super-powered nature of the character means that the exploration and movement aspect of the game is much more important and complex than the simple "jump good" of Crackdown. Your character, young hotshot scientist Alex Mercer, has a wide variety of powers at his disposal, usually revolving around shapeshifting and absorption. If you've ever seen the comic character Carnage, you'll have an idea of Alex's powers in-use.

Prototype screens showcase awesome brutality

The X3F Army has spoken and they've come to the conclusion that they don't know what to think about Prototype. On one hand the game is a perfect blend of realistic brutality coupled with Crackdown style gameplay (Or, Hulk: Ultimate Destruction which was made by the same team). On the other hand Prototype updates have been so mysterious and spread so thinly the game continuously falls off and on our radar. Sierra sent 8 new screenshots of the Radical Entertainment title that, much like previous shots, showcase the brutality and options gamers will have in combat. Looking more polished, and less grainy than previous screens, the game at least perks us up when we catch a new glimpse of it. With a solid team and (mostly) stellar back catalog behind the dev team, Prototype could be a sleeper hit when it releases later this year.
Rumor: GameStop dates Prototype, Splinter Cell V, Sonic Unleashed, Rogue Warrior and more

One of our loyal X3F Army tipsters has outed himself as an employee of GameStop, but to make up for it he sent us a camera phone image of a few release dates. While you should take these dates with a grain of salt some of them are accurate, specifically Ninja Gaiden 2, Soul Calibur IV and Civilization Revolution.
Fueling the fire of the Sega's Sonic Unleashed leak is a release date of November 4 for the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and PS2. EA's NFL Head Coach 09 is slated for a September 3 release and based on the release of the original in relation to Madden, the time frame seems accurate. A few titles we haven't heard much from are Bethesda Softworks' Rogue Warrior (November 10) and Edios Interactive's Shellshock 2: Blood Trails (September 1), which is being developed by the team at Rebellion.
Other dates include Sierra's Prototype from Radical and the Xbox 360 exclusive Splinter Cell: Conviction from Ubisoft which are dated for October 21 and October 2 respectfully.
Remember, pre-order focused retailers tend to guess-timate releases on a regular basis to structure their sales goals for the final two quarters of the year. However, some of the names on this list make us really glad we have a rumor category.

New Prototype video: New York City
To go with our new Prototype screens we hear by present a six minute video of the game, detailing it's environment, New York. A good portion of the video is fluff, but there are some tidbits that give us hope for the game. The team has some good creative ideas, but whether or not there is enough game underneath it all is currently unknown. The video promises a super-dense, constantly changing city, but for the most part we are shown concept art, and the longest snippets of gameplay are from the game's pre-alpha. The guys at Radical swear that they'll deliver on everything they've promised, and the game still does has potential, but in this form it almost seems to be living up to it's name.
Prototype, four fresh screens

Video: First Prototype gameplay footage
Last night on G4's X-play, Morgan Webb got the chance to talk with Radical Entertainment and get a first look at a hands-on game demo of a little game called Prototype. And knock us off the sofa with a softball bat, this game has potential.
The six minute gameplay preview showcases a 20% complete build of Prototype where they highlight the main character's morphing abilities, the crazy about of mayhem that goes on at any given moment and some serious body dismemberment. All of our previous hopes and interests pertaining to Prototype have been further solidified after watching this hands on demo as we can truly say this game has a lot going for it. Destruction on a mass scale, super human abilities, visceral moments and a little thing called online co-op makes us giddy with anticipation. Watch the embedded hands-on demo above and check out the teaser demo after the break featuring some crazy helicopter hijacking. Just think ... the build you are watching is only 20% complete!
Video: Prototype is out of beta
Another world premier trailer has come straight out of Spike's VGAs and it's from the game Prototype from our jolly good lads over at Codemasters. And like McDonalds, we're lovin' it. Prototype looks good and, dare we use the term, badass? We're not sure about the game's specifics, how engaging the storyline will be or how the gameplay mechanics will play out, but the trailer has sucked us in. Heck, even if you don't hover towards the optimistic end of the Prototype spectrum, you have to admit that Codemasters can throw together a pretty satisfying trailer. Which is more than can be said for Vegas 2. Oh, snap!
