Dead Space Zero-G dev diary is disorienting

In the latest Dead Space developer diary, the developers at EA talk about the implementation of zero gravity environments. According to the video, "at least 20%" of Dead Space takes place in zero gravity. In zero gravity players use magnetic boots that allow Isaac, the game's protagonist, to stick to different surfaces. Players can also launch themselves to -- and subsequently walk on -- other surfaces in a room.

The developers mention that part of the game's challenge is becoming reoriented to your surroundings in zero gravity. As "the floor maybe become the ceiling, and the ceiling the floor," players need to reorient themselves quickly in order to deal with enemies. One last thing: in complete vacuums (where sound does not travel) players will only be able to hear the sounds of Isaac's breathing and heartbeat. Creepy.

Blasting through Dead Space with an ore cutter

Knowing ones tools of destruction is vital to success in any survival horror game (especially a space-based one), which is exactly why you should get informed about the weapons in EA's upcoming Dead Space.

IGN has the complete informative rundown of all six mining weapons featured in the game including the trusty old Plasma Cutter, the riptacular Remote Control Disc Ripper and (one of our favs) the Ore Cutter Line Gun. It's destructively badass. Now that we are edjumacated about our weaponry, we are rather confident that those icky alien Necromorphs don't even have the slightest chance of victory. Bring it.

Dead Space release bumped up to October 14th

Dead Space, the space survivor horror game we've been gushing about these past few months, was originally scheduled to release to retailers on Halloween. What perfect marketing, right? Well, last month we learned that its release was mysteriously bumped up a week earlier to October 24th. Now, we've just been notified by EA that Dead Space's release has moved up on the release schedule yet again, this time to Tuesday, October 14th. What's the reason? EA doesn't have an official explanation other than the fact that the they say the game's development is ahead of schedule. But we have a hunch that they want to distance Dead Space from November's other huge 360 blockbusters. Makes sense, right?

Dead Space scares gamers a week early in Europe

In one of the most surprising announcements since the original Gears of War 'just sell it whenever' release date, Electronic Arts has announced that Dead Space will be releasing a week earlier than originally planned in Europe. That puts Dead Space into the hot little hands of 360 gamers by October 24th in Europe. Why, that gives everyone a full week to enjoy the game before Halloween. We can't wait to see all the Isaac Clarke costumes and Necromorph Jack-o'-lanterns.

Dead Space backstory with No Known Survivors

EA just sent word that they've launched a new Dead Space website that's aimed at telling some of the game's backstory over the course of nine weeks which, coincidentally, will lead right into the game's October release. is the Dead Space website and upon arriving you'll be greeted with nine floating body parts (as well as an age gate, darn age gates.) Currently, only one limb is clickable and upon its clicking, you'll be dropped into the Ishimura's Organ Replacement Lab to uncover all its secrets, who's involved and what has been going on. We're being promised a bunch of interactive Dead Space goodness and information over the course of the next few weeks and, by the looks of things already, it'll keep obsessed Dead Space fanboys plenty busy. Also, head on over to IGN's Expanded coverage section where we're told complimentary information (photos, audio files, etc.) are being released.

Video: Doing some Dead Space gardening

Here's a gory, explosive and dismemberment treat for you. EA just released a new "Garden" Dead Space trailer that you can view above and even if it doesn't carry the same emotional weight as the Lullaby trailer, it has plenty of fantastic gameplay to compensate. Damn, we just want to shoot the limbs off of everything after watching this. Dead Space dismemberment effects and eerie atmosphere FTW!

Fallout 3, Electronic Arts clean up at Game Critics E3 Awards

Fallout 3 from Bethesda Softworks nabbed the coveted Game of the Show award today from Game Critics -- a panel of judges comprised of editors from various online/offline publications (including Joystiq's own Chris Grant). Fallout 3 also took home the award for Best RPG at the show.

Electronic Arts brought home 5 awards including Best Action/Adventure game for Dead Space and Best Original Game for Mirror's Edge. The Xbox 360 platform was at the top of the award count with 8 for the console, including a Best Action Game win for Gears of War 2.

Dead Space dev diary scares up Scary Moments

Scares are, not surprisingly, a vital part of any survival horror game. The latest developer diary for Dead Space is all about scary moments, and the devs at EA Redwood Shores want to assure us all that the game will be full of 'em. The developers spend time talking about exactly what makes a scary moment scary and furthermore how Dead Space will go about utilizing them. It's kind of hard to be scared by the game when we're not actually playing it, but at least the dev diary gives us an idea of what to expect. It doesn't hurt that the game looks beautiful either.

If you still need convincing, check out our hands-on impressions of the game from E3.

Video: Dead Space's controversial lullaby

Looking for a creepy, twisted and bloody disturbing trailer to watch before you head off into dreamland this evening? If so, we have just the trailer for you. Dead Space (which we consider to be an E3 standout) recently released and re-aired a new "Lullaby" trailer for almost mass consumption. Set to an eerie rendition of the children's song "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star", this Dead Space trailer is violent and, for that, it is downright amazing. Too amazing for the folks over at the ESRB, because they actually refused to rate it for American audiences. But to heck with the ESRB. Watch the latest Dead Space trailer embedded above and give us your impressions. We're a bit enthusiastic about its decapitated potential, what say you?

E308: Dead Space hands on

It's the survival horror game that really hasn't been able to garner too much attention this year, but after getting a chance to play it at EA's booth during E3, we're more confident than ever that the buzz machine surrounding the title will be kicking in pretty soon. We're of course talking about Dead Space, EA's twisted sci-fi horror game that isn't only beautiful artistically, but also offers equally stunning gameplay and innovative gameplay elements to match. E308: Dead Space 'Loved Ones' trailer is crazy, freaky

During the Electronic Arts Press Conference yesterday, EA showed off some gameplay footage of Dead Space. After the developer guided demo through the upcoming survival horror title was over EA left gamers salivating and frightened with a teaser trailer. Each time we see it Dead Space looks more and more like a contender for the survival horror crown. Could it take Resident Evil and Silent Hill down a notch? Well, we'll have to wait for crappy Hollywood movies based on it to find out for sure. Dead Space lands in stores on October 21, 2008.

Dead Space devs give away their fav DVDs

Just thought we'd let you know that our Dead Space EA buddies are holding a pretty nifty sweepstakes over at the official Dead Space site. We use the term "nifty" because they're actually giving away 100 horror / sci-fi DVDs to one lucky winner, including movies like AvP, Halloween, The Shining and The Exorcist. So hop on over to the sweepstakes registration page by July 27th and see if you can score some free DVD goodness. Though, the only draw back to the whole sweepstakes entry process is the fact that you are required to sign up for their EA newsletter. We guess they gotta get something for their 100 DVD giveaway and your email address are the riches they're going after.

Dead Space gets box'arted

You've gotta hand it to Electronic Arts. For all the flak they get in the industry they certainly try their hand at a ton of new IPs. OK, enough with the hand gag. Back on topic. Army of Two, Spore, Dead Space are a few new titles from the mega-publisher trying to shy away from being known as the annual release factory.

As for Dead Space, the survival-horror space action-shooter, EA released an image of the box art a few days ago and boy is it grim. A severed hand floats in cold space searching for a body to call home. It makes sense when you think about it. The owner is probably dead and it is floating in space. Creative. Creepy, but creative.

Video: How Dead Space does dismemberment

We must confess, after watching this latest Dead Space trailer our interest in the game has shot up a solid 17%. The reason? Simple. We're intrigued by how the game handles creature killing, all the interesting weapons and, most importantly, all that dismemberment action. You'll have to watch the trailer to get what we mean, but it should speak for itself. Seeing evil crawly monsters inch towards you without any legs is enjoyable and so is the gravity gun type telekinesis gun. Then, when you're done with the trailer, hit the break to view in-game Dead Space dismemberment carnage. Yum!

Dead Space: In space no one can hear you release new screens

The newest action title to be added to Electronic Arts' catalog is the space thriller (sp'riller?), Dead Space. In the third-person action shooter gamers play as Issac, a miner who is decked out in the depressurized space suit dubbed 'The Rig.' Aboard an infested mining ship, Issac battles for survival against an alien species known as the 'Xenomorphs' 'Necromorphs'. The game also features weightless and decompressed environments for all your space Spider-Man, wall-walking desires. Dead Space is expected to release this fall.
