EA boss says to expect more Mercenaries

According to EA boss John Riccitiello the Mercenaries series will see another installment. During an earnings call, Riccitiello confirmed that Mercenaries will join Dead Space and the upcoming Mirror's Edge as continuing franchises for the mega-publisher along with Will Wright's latest, Spore.

Released in late August, Mercenaries 2: World in Flames has sold 1.9 million units across four platforms. Riccitiello made the announcement when asked if EA's recent releases were considered "sequelable" by the publisher -- who has posted a $310 million loss for its second quarter fiscal release. The EA CEO also stated that each of the mentioned titles were not likely to see annual releases.

EA talks Dead Space, Bad Company, Army of Two sequels

In a move that isn't likely to shock readers of this website, EA's Frank Gibeau recently told Variety that Electronic Arts is planning sequels to Battlefield: Bad Company, and Army of Two. Dead Space executive producer Glenn Schofield also confirmed that a Dead Space sequel is in the works as well. Dead Space fans will also be happy to hear that Dead Space novels and toys are under consideration. We're hoping to see some Necromorphs with limb popping action. No concrete details on any of the sequels, such as when we might expect them, were given.

X3F Impressions: Dead Space review

Way back (by internet standards) in September 2007 when EA announced a new space survival horror game game called Dead Space, we couldn't help but roll our eyes in expectation of mediocrity. But over the course of a year, things changed.

Over time, we heard more about its intriguing story, its gruesome dismemberment, stunning visuals and were introduced to the iconic look of main character Isaac Clarke. Suddenly, bloggers and reporters were coming out of E3 giving it praise and were actually excited for EA's survival horror game. That's when a sense of excitement spread as Dead Space's potential was realized. I'm proud to say that after playing through the entire Dead Space campaign, the game delivers a gaming experience as expected. But not based on those early, mediocre 2007 expectations. No, Dead Space delivers on the higher expectations that were set during E3, treating gamers to a solid survival horror experience as was promised.

Achievement hunter takes on Dead Space

Rooster Teeth's site all about achievements and the joy (or pain) they cause, Achievement Hunter just posted a new Dead Space video showing how you can earn both the "Marksman" and "Tool Time" achievements. The video walk-through (embedded above) demos how you can easily decapitate evil, blow off limbs, squish heads and earn yourself 15 Gamerscore in the process. Watch the vid and be sure to stay clear of those auto closing doors. They're equally deadly as the ones they install at Walmart stores.

First review gives Dead Space 91%, gushes about 'film-worthy' script

The first Dead Space review has made its way online and, no surprise to us, it got a pretty damn good review.

CVG spotted the first game review over at Xbox World 360 magazine who gave it a 91% and went as far as to say that Resident Evil developer Capcom should take note of Dead Space, "because EA can teach them a thing or three about survival horror." Ouch. The review goes on to gush about the game's film-worthy script, intense horror themes and describes it as "Rapture in space: every bit as disturbing, just as meticulously designed and easily as believable." We think it's safe to say that if more reviews mirror these kinds of impressions, then Dead Space delivered as promised. Our excitement level rises ...

Dead Space is gold, special Elite suit revealed [update]

Update: To clear up any confusion regarding the suite DLC, we just heard from EA that the Elite skin will be available as a free download off the XBLM for two weeks after the game's release. After two weeks, we aren't sure if it'll go paid or disappear, just know there is no pre-order necessary.

Today, EA made the big announcement that the violently abusive space adventure Dead Space has gone gold and is being laser inscribed to disc so you can enjoy the fun on October 14th. But that's not all, because EA also mentioned that they're awarding gamers who purchase the game within' two weeks of launch with platform specific Dead Space skins. Xbox 360 owners will be able to download the free Xbox-themed "Elite Suit" (get it, the naming, Elite?) and PS3 owners will get the less interesting "Obsidian Suit". Check out pictures of each in the gallery below.

Finally, for those of you who are online ordering folks, simply head over to NoKnownSurvivors.com, sign up for their adventure and you'll insta-receive a $5 off coupon for your Dead Space purchase at the EA Store.

Dead Space dev to be re-branded, develop more titles

Quick question hotshot. Who is currently developing Dead Space? Electronic Arts isn't the right answer, they're publishing it. To those who know (or have returned from Wikipedia) congratulations if you said EA Redwood Shores. EARS, as they are affectionately known around the office, has continuously impressed industry professionals, horror masters and gamers alike and EA has seen fit to give them a proper name, reports Variety.

Glenn Schofield, the head-honcho of EARS, revealed EA's plan to rename the studio is part of an over-arching plan to pitch the developer to gamers and potential employees as one of "creativity, originality, and high quality third person action adventure titles". What does that mean exactly? Well, after the inevitable Dead Space sequel the team may become EA's go-to studio for all things third-person action. Take that EA Montreal and your buggy Army of Two!

Legendary horror director to lend voice to Italian Dead Space port

Often gamers can look forward to celebrity voice-overs in their favorite titles but how often do famous international stars jump into the studio to lend their vocal talents? Legendary horror director Dario Argento, best known for his work on the 1977 film Susperia and collaborations with George A. Romero on the original Dawn of the Dead film, will voice a character in the Italian version of Dead Space from Electronic Arts.

Argento will voice the role of Doctor Kyne and while North American audiences won't hear his first vocal role, the famed director has already stamped Dead Space with his seal of approval. "Dead Space truly captures the essence of fear in an entertainment medium," Argento said in a press release outlining his involvement. "Not only is it the most terrifying game I've ever played, but it's also one that all fans of horror will appreciate."

Dead Space is set to hit the Xbox 360 on October 14.
