Assassin's Creed, BIA pushed back, GRAW2 coming

Dutch gaming site, Xboxworld, is reporting that Ubisoft has delayed the launches of both Assassin's Creed and Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway, pushing them into late 2007, possibly next Christmas. This information was contained in Ubisoft's quarterly earnings report, along with the announcement of a sequel to the massively popular Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter. There is some more good news here, too. GRAW 2 is apparently set to release in the first half of 2007. The delay of Assassin's Creed is upsetting to be sure, but GRAW 2 makes a damned fine replacement. Still, we're very excited to see Assassin's Creed and we hope that it comes out sooner rather than later.

Assassin's Creed site sneaks onto the web [update 1]

The official Assassin's Creed website has launched. If you've been following the game, the website won't show you anything new. Still, there is plenty of content there. There are plenty of downloads including screenshots, wallpapers, icons, webkits, and a screensaver. It's worth noting that the site retains the occasional digital glitching that pops up in the trailers, hinting at the rumored futuristic plot twist. Also worth noting is the unintentional bugginess of the site. I wasn't able to get any of the wallpapers, and the links to all the full size screenshots were broken, as was the link to developer diaries. It's not because of heavy traffic either, the links just don't work. Kind of shocking for such a high profile game, no?

Update: It seems some clarification is in order. Indeed, there has been an AC site for some time, but not with all the features described above. From the site:

"Thursday 10.12.06
Welcome to the Assassin's Creed Portal
Welcome to the
Assassin's Creed portal! On this site you'll find new information that wasn't available with our previous site, as well as the most recent news about the upcoming game from the Ubisoft Montreal studios. Take a look around and tell us what you think of the site in the forums!"

Need new wallpaper? Think Assassin's Creed [update 1]

IGN has some fancy artwork from the PS3 exclusive that wasn't, Assassin's Creed. The artworks are all very large and very pretty. They're just right for that spiffy new desktop background you've been looking for. Now if we could just scrub out that pesky IGN watermark ...

Update: Fixed tiny grammatical error.

Assassin's Creed confirmed (or not) again [update 1]

And the Assassin's Creed rumors just keep comin'. Pictured at right is the latest cover for 360 Magazine, a British rag that covers, you guessed it, the Xbox 360. It says it all right there:

"World Exclusive: Assassin's Creed, Ubisoft goes in for the kill."

Could the longstanding mystery behind Ubisoft's staunch refusal to reveal AC's 360 status finally be solved? Any Brits out there seen this magazine yet? Does it even exist? Hit the read link and then click "Latest Issue" to see the cover.

[Thanks, Les Doodis.]

Update
: We know that you all know this by now, but AC has been officially confirmed. You may now commence chiding us for our delinquency in posting this sooner.

Assassin's Creed finally official, probably.

Format Xbox 360
Developer Ubisoft
Publisher Ubisoft
Genre Action, Adventure

The above is a snippet from Computer and Videogames' latest preview of Assassin's Creed. In case you haven't made the connection yet, this more or less confirms the constantly shuffling status of the once almighty PS3 exclusive. That is to say, it's hitting both PS3 and 360, which almost everybody expected anyway. Now, lest this was merely a typo on the part of some poor soul at Computer and Videogames, I will sit here and wait to be shot down by Ubisoft.

The rest of you can dance in the streets.
