Another week goes by and another Live Top Ten is upon us. This week sees some things that don't change, the return of a few old faces, and other movements. The top four remain the same, with Shadowrun also remaining at tenth, though its demo dropped to 9th, which is unfortunate. Oblivion and GRAW 2 make returns at sixth and seventh respectively, as it looks like players are coming back to those in the summer lull. Full list breakdown after the break.
Last week had the return of Arcade titles to the Live top ten, and this week continues to do so. As is the trend of the moment, we have Gears of War, Crackdown, and Rainbow Six Vegas taking the top three spots. Worms moves to fourth, three spots above its introduction to the list, followed by GRAW 2, which had its demo in sixth last week. Now, Call of Duty 3 moves has that slot, with newcomer TMNT for XBLA starting in 7th, like Worms did before. Oblivion and Madden 07 swap spots, and Lost Planet continues to round out the list. For the complete breakdown, check out our list after the break, which includes last weeks results for comparison.
For you fellow Canadian fanboys out there, Blockbuster Video is carrying the "Badges of Honour". For a toonie, you can get your hands on one of five limited edition badges, from GRAW 2, to Guitar Hero II to Halo 3. Last week, Crackdown came on strong with bronze position on the Live top ten. Now it's swapped spots with Rainbow Six: Vegas as Call of Duty 3 continues to be just shy of the podium. GRAW 2's mulitplayer demo makes a return to take the Crackdown demo's position, which moved to 7th. Madden refuses to budge at sixth while Lost Planet and Oblivion get nudged to eighth and ninth, respectively. GRAW rounds out the bottom of the list while last, and obviously not least, Gears of War retains its top spot over all of Xbox Live-dom. Do you feel slightly confused? If so, our simple, yet eloquent list awaits your review after the break, complete with last weeks standings in parentheses.
After having had a few days to delve deep into the demo for GRAW 2's multiplayer, we don't feel that it has made the same steps forward as the single player has. We're still stuck with no cover system, but we do get the new full screen cross-com by holding down the right bumper. The Co-Op missions are a lot of fun, and the ability to invite friends to games in a demo is really nice, but the user interface is more or less identical to the previous version. Sure, if it ain't broke, don't fix it, but GRAW's UI wasn't exactly perfect. The graphics in multiplayer did however look closer to the caliber of the single player, but their still is a noticeable difference between the two. With the game having gone gold recently, it looks like we won't have long to find out how the retail version is. What did you think of the demo? Does it make you want to buy GRAW 2, or do you pretty much have to because "everyone else" is?
Today, Ubisoft confirmed that there will be a GRAW 2 multiplayer demo available next Monday, which is February 26th for those not keeping score. On the map that is playable, you will be able to participate in both co-op and adversarial matches with up to 15 other gamers. The thing gamers are most curious to find out is what new gameplay mechanics from the single player experience will make the jump over to multiplayer. Which features do you want to make the cut, aside from a cover system?
360Monster held a contest in which the winner would spend a day with Ubisoft and get some hands on time with GRAW 2. Winner "Phatmuther" took some pictures of the 43 Achievements available for the game, and there are a few cool ones, and thankfully no sign of any world ranking based Achievements. The list seems pretty balanced between multiplayer, co-op and single player based goals. The coolest one we have a description for is "Ultimate Defender" where you have to win a 60 minute Co-Op Defend match. Full list and select descriptions can be found by clicking the "Read" link. Pictures from the event are also available for your viewing.
Major Nelson just posted an Xbox Live Marketplace update about four new gameplay videos for Ubisoft's Ghost Recon Advance Warfighter 2 on Marketplace. The flavors to choose from feature the new sniper rifle, air strike command, squad tactics and gatling gun mounted on the helicopter. They are available in 480p and 720p, and average about 30 MB and 160 MB, respectively. The sniper trailer appears to be the shortest, as its size is 9 MB and 40 MB. In any case, these videos should help shed some light on features you couldn't pick up from the demo.
