Later this week (November 13th to be exact), Dead Space will be receiving a bunch of downloadable content. Paid downloadable content that'll change the look and feel of your Dead Space gaming experience.
You can view the complete list of DLC after the break, which includes various armor and weapon content that ranges in price from 80 to 320 Microsoft points. We wish the content was free (like the Elite offering weeks back), but we have to let EA be EA and let them milk their Dead Space cash cow. Bleh.
According to EA boss John Riccitiello the Mercenaries series will see another installment. During an earnings call, Riccitiello confirmed that Mercenaries will join Dead Space and the upcoming Mirror's Edge as continuing franchises for the mega-publisher along with Will Wright's latest, Spore.
Released in late August, Mercenaries 2: World in Flames has sold 1.9 million units across four platforms. Riccitiello made the announcement when asked if EA's recent releases were considered "sequelable" by the publisher -- who has posted a $310 million loss for its second quarter fiscal release. The EA CEO also stated that each of the mentioned titles were not likely to see annual releases.
This week, there is a lot of Xbox 360 new game release deals. So much so, that we'll forgo an overly long intro and just get right to it. So ...
Best Buy is giving out a free beanie hat with purchase of Guitar Hero World Tour, selling Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway for $40 and offering Blitz II for $50. Target stores only have one good deal and that's a free $25 gift card with purchase of an Xbox 360 Arcade console. Circuit City is dishing out the gift cards (as has become the norm), giving away a free $10 gift card with purchase of Fable II, Golden Axe,Far Cry 2, Dead Space, Saints Row 2, and Hell's Highway. You can score a free $10 gift card and mini strategy guide with purchase of Fallout 3 (CE), a free $15 iTunes gift card with purchase of Guitar Hero World Tour and a free t-shirt with Legendary. Phew ... happy shopping!

And here ... we ... go. We're halfway through October and it's finally started. The industry imposed holiday game torrent is upon us. We hope you've saved up some cash (or tidied up your GameFly queue) because, starting now, you're going to need it. Just look at all of these games:
Way back (by internet standards) in September 2007 when EA announced a new space survival horror game game called Dead Space, we couldn't help but roll our eyes in expectation of mediocrity. But over the course of a year, things changed.
Over time, we heard more about its intriguing story, its gruesome dismemberment, stunning visuals and were introduced to the iconic look of main character Isaac Clarke. Suddenly, bloggers and reporters were coming out of E3 giving it praise and were actually excited for EA's survival horror game. That's when a sense of excitement spread as Dead Space's potential was realized. I'm proud to say that after playing through the entire Dead Space campaign, the game delivers a gaming experience as expected. But not based on those early, mediocre 2007 expectations. No, Dead Space delivers on the higher expectations that were set during E3, treating gamers to a solid survival horror experience as was promised.
Update: This giveaway is now closed and all winners have been notified. But there's more Dead Spacegoodies to be won.
Dead Space, EA's freakishly disgusting survival horror game (in space!) storms retail shelves this week and in celebration, we've partnered with EA for a Dead Space Launch Week Giveaway. Spread throughout the week, we'll be holding two huge Fanswag giveaways where we'll be awarding fanboys all kinds Dead Space prizes including copies of the game. It's going to be a Fanswag'licious week and it all starts RIGHT NOW!
To kick off the Dead Space Launch Week Giveaway, today we're awarding five fanboys Dead Space prize packs. Three winners will receive a Dead Space mini-artbook, mini-poster, and a hardcover graphic novel and two lucky grand prize winners will receive all those goodies plus a copy of Dead Space. Remember, this giveaway runs from now through Tuesday night, so be sure to enter once each day. Enough talk, it's time to win!
To enter the giveaway, leave a comment on this post telling us what excites you most about EA's Dead Space. Dismemberment, the game's plot, or Isaac's wicked cool helmet? Tell us!
You may leave one comment per calendar day (eastern time) each day the contest is live. Posters of multiple comments in a single calendar day will be disqualified. We'll accept entries until Tuesday, October 14th at 11:00PM eastern. You must be at least 18 years old to enter. This giveaway is open only to residents of the U.S. and Canada (excluding Quebec).
This Tuesday, we'll pick five winners via a random drawing.
Two grand prize winners will receive (1) Dead Space for the Xbox 360, (1) The Art of Dead Space mini-book, (1) Dead Space hardcover graphic novel, and (1) Dead Space mini-poster valued at $95. Three second prize winners will receive (1) The Art of Dead Space mini-book, (1) Dead Space hardcover graphic novel, and (1) Dead Space mini-poster valued at $30.
If new releases are your aim and free gift cards are you game, then check out Circuit City, because they're giving away free $10 gift cards with purchase of Dead Space and Saints Row 2 (CE) and they're offering LEGO: Indiana Jones for $40. Even better, from now through Tuesday, you can save 15% on select 360 games over $39 using coupon code "PKACD5EARN" at checkout.
Over at Best Buy stores, they're selling the new red controller bundle and are giving away the movie Boyz N the Hood with purchase of Saints Row 2. Finally, Toys R Us earns the prestigious "Deal of Week" honor with their Buy 2 Get 1 FREE offer on ALL video games. Even new releases! Happy shopping!
Rooster Teeth's site all about achievements and the joy (or pain) they cause, Achievement Hunter just posted a new Dead Space video showing how you can earn both the "Marksman" and "Tool Time" achievements. The video walk-through (embedded above) demos how you can easily decapitate evil, blow off limbs, squish heads and earn yourself 15 Gamerscore in the process. Watch the vid and be sure to stay clear of those auto closing doors. They're equally deadly as the ones they install at Walmart stores.
The first Dead Space review has made its way online and, no surprise to us, it got a pretty damn good review.
CVG spotted the first game review over at Xbox World 360 magazine who gave it a 91% and went as far as to say that Resident Evil developer Capcom should take note of Dead Space,"because EA can teach them a thing or three about survival horror." Ouch. The review goes on to gush about the game's film-worthy script, intense horror themes and describes it as "Rapture in space: every bit as disturbing, just as meticulously designed and easily as believable." We think it's safe to say that if more reviews mirror these kinds of impressions, then Dead Space delivered as promised. Our excitement level rises ...
Update: To clear up any confusion regarding the suite DLC, we just heard from EA that the Elite skin will be available as a free download off the XBLM for two weeks after the game's release. After two weeks, we aren't sure if it'll go paid or disappear, just know there is no pre-order necessary.
Today, EA made the big announcement that the violently abusive space adventure Dead Space has gone gold and is being laser inscribed to disc so you can enjoy the fun on October 14th. But that's not all, because EA also mentioned that they're awarding gamers who purchase the game within' two weeks of launch with platform specific Dead Space skins. Xbox 360 owners will be able to download the free Xbox-themed "Elite Suit" (get it, the naming, Elite?) and PS3 owners will get the less interesting "Obsidian Suit". Check out pictures of each in the gallery below.
Finally, for those of you who are online ordering folks, simply head over to NoKnownSurvivors.com, sign up for their adventure and you'll insta-receive a $5 off coupon for your Dead Space purchase at the EA Store.
Quick question hotshot. Who is currently developing Dead Space? Electronic Arts isn't the right answer, they're publishing it. To those who know (or have returned from Wikipedia) congratulations if you said EA Redwood Shores. EARS, as they are affectionately known around the office, has continuously impressed industry professionals, horror masters and gamers alike and EA has seen fit to give them a proper name, reports Variety.
Glenn Schofield, the head-honcho of EARS, revealed EA's plan to rename the studio is part of an over-arching plan to pitch the developer to gamers and potential employees as one of "creativity, originality, and high quality third person action adventure titles". What does that mean exactly? Well, after the inevitable Dead Space sequel the team may become EA's go-to studio for all things third-person action. Take that EA Montreal and your buggy Army of Two!
This week we have some special guests on the Xbox 360 Fancast. We have Community Manager Ben Swanson and Online Marketing Manager Andrew Green from Electronic Arts to discuss Dead Space and its No Known Survivors campaign. Beyond that we have the usual news and chicanery with the added bonus of more British accents. It's okay though, because Alexander loves BBC America. It's actually worth listening to this one, we promise.
