Microsoft just launched a new Xbox Storage Upgrade website where Arcade and Core owners can request their storage solution. All you have to do is enter your console's serial number and ID, then the system will check to make sure your console isn't an Elite or Pro. Some are reporting that the system knows if you have a HDD connected and will deny your storage upgrade, so be careful. Once your console is verified to be lacking 128MBs of storage, you'll be given a special offer based on which console you own. The storage solution offers are:
- Xbox 360 Acade owners: Refurbished 20GB HDD + 3 months of Xbox Live for $30.
- Xbox 360 Core owners: 512MB memory card for free OR refurbished 20GB HDD for $20

They should let 20GB owners upgrade to 60GB or 120GB for a small fee if we send in our 20GB drives (after transferring data, of course) so they will have more to sell to Arcade and core owners.

I second that! Or why don't they make a usb external hdd enclosure where you can put in your own hard drive of any storage capacity! I wouldn't mind paying $35 for an enclosure. it would be like the hd dvd add-on.

20gb is a joke? I have all the Halo dlc and I also have bought 42 arcade games and still have 7.2gb left. What the hell are you doing? Downloading whole seasons of tv shows?

Microsoft says that bluray disc and other physical media arent the way of the future, so they better provide enough storage to allow a person to download whole seasons

how can any of you guys say that 20gb is enough when the console
ships with only 11. somethingGB available?
it's so not enough for all the content + ability to install games.
throw the 20gb owners a frickin bone here MS!

@bingo,
I have all of the Halo 3 DLC, a handful of GH3 and Rock Band DLC, about 5 full XBLA games, and a couple of TV shows. I have about 2GB left of space. Yep, 2GB. If you think 20GB is "enough" in todays world, then you are either a 80 year old geezer or a clueless 12 year old. Sorry if I sound harsh, but 20GB is a joke.

20 GB is a joke.. I got the elite, 120GB, with 70.4GB left.. maybe not a bit deal for me..
but in 2 years, I have -
Games save/content - 18.8GB
Demos - 2GB
Videos - 9GB
My Profile - 17MB
Gamer pics/Themes -110MB
& system items - 5MB
weighs in at 29GB a lot more than the starting 14GB on the 20GB.. 11GB is actually xbox 1 games
(rest is music)
And for anyone who doesn't know.. the 360 HDD is a notebook hard drive.. why they can't let us buy a (over priced) case to put our own in...I'd be happy with that, I'd buy a faster one.. some out there are (a slow) 5600rpm, some 7200rpm.. 5600rpm I think is still faster than the DVD disc..

Couldn't someone just go into a store and look at the serial number for one of the systems yet to be sold?

How are you going to do that, isn't the serial number secured on the console inside the box? I don't think you can read it from the outside.

you need the console id as well

You can read it from the outside actually, all you have to do is lift up the cardboard tab and you can see the sticker. That's how people used to check to see when the Xbox 360 they were about to purchase was manufactured.

you don't get both info from under the tab.
