Today, Microsoft announced that Gears of War 2 has surpassed the original Gears' pre-order numbers and also informed us that it's "poised to become the must-have video game this holiday season." Can't argue that.
Also as part of the press release, we're informed of all their Gears 2 launch plans and offers including a gold Lancer unlock with the limited edition, gold Hammerburst unlock given out at all 20,000 midnight launches, gameplay tips from the Epic team and a special Game with Fame weekend. Not just that, but Microsoft also confirmed that they'll be releasing a Flashback Map Pack (featuring five remade Gears maps) on launch day, which will be a free download with redemption code found in new copies of Gears 2. Bring on November 7th!

Well, that's kind of balanced out by the fact that this one is releasing alongside a half dozen other triple A titles in a crowded holliday season, whereas the original launched as basically the only good next-gen (now current-gen) game.
I'd imagine the attach rate will end up much higher for the original, given the utter lack of competition at the time.

MS gave me a NEW XBOX WITH HARD DRIVE when my old one died. Shoddy treatment? What the hell are you talking about, Mik? I got some of the best customer service ever from Microsoft.

I just saw the entire opening scene and to say "jaw dropped "is putting it lighty. Its getting near movie production quality. A real nice standard to have exclusively.

Am I the only one bothered by the fact that you don't get 5 of the maps unless bought new?
We all know there's no way in hell those are extra, those are part of the game not being granted to those who buy used or rent it.
I am worried as hell that Epic is going to start a trend with that idea, and for the first time ever I am questioning whether I should buy this game or not.

they get no revenue from used sales, if any its minor. they are throwing in the flashback pack as incentive for people to buy it. they aren't trying to screw over people who want to buy used, they are rewarding those who buy new.

That's basically the same price as if they had just released it as paid DLC, only the people that bought new get it free.
Either way, it adds up to basically the same dollar amount.

Some stupid law says we can't have midnight openings for stores, so while all the rest of Canada can get the gold hammerburst, Quebecers get screwed, just like all the contests we can't enter, (like everyone from here and Joystiq).
Still, I'm definately picking this one up first thing on the 7th.

The redemption code for the new maps will be inside the jacket of your new GOW2 CD. Once you enter the code, you can play the new maps. The maps WILL NOT be available to download from the marketplace. You can only get them if you buy the game new.
