Later today, Bungie will release the second Halo 3 title update and with it a set of ten new achievements will be added which allows an additional 250 Gamerscore to be unlocked. All are now viewable on Xbox.com along with (surprise!) a bunch of additional achievements that haven't been officially announced. These additional achievements total 500 in Gamerscore which bumps Halo 3's total Gamerscore to a whopping 1750!
The additional achievements look to be the same ones that were leaked from PAX a few weeks ago which are the ones Bungie made it clear they wouldn't be talking about just yet. It's interesting to note that a few of these newer achievements make mention of "Mythic" maps, referring to six different (and yet to be announced) multiplayer maps called Assembly, Citadel, Heretic, Longshore, Orbital and Sandbox. Or so we think they're multiplayer maps.
Whatever is going on, we're totally out of the loop because Bungie technically only announced that the ten Legendary achievements would be included in today's H3 update. Maybe the posting of additional 500 Gamerscore worth of achievements was a mix-up by the Xbox.com folks OR maybe the Superintendent has something to do with this. We're confused, but REALLY excited!
[Thanks, to everyone who sent this in]

Thats what I was thinking. They don't have skulls on multiplayer maps, do they?

That would be insane! But how could they possibly work it in? They could decide to have very hard to find skulls on a multiplayer map...?

One of the achievements says find the hidden skull on Assembly, a known multiplayer map. Thus mostly likely we will not get any additional single player campaign. Instead we get skulls on multiplayer maps.

I'm not sure. The limit on ALL 360 games is 1250 gamerscore, so either Microsoft is changing the rules for Halo, or it's going to be a separate title.

How about this, what if when the new mythic maps are released that bungie adds a new mode, kinda like the mode that was announced for GW2 i forget right now what it was called but the one where you fight of hordes of locust, that would kinda explain the elites that were on rats nest in the award ceremony video and the skulls on a multiplayer map. They could put the skulls in just any room but have that room heavily guarded or blocked of to make it difficult to get to.

Adding on to the campaign might make me put something other than Rock Band games in my 360 for once.

I thought this was gonna be multiplayer but...skulls? Though, the idea of everyone in a mutliplayer match suddenly converging on one spot or all following each other along a hidden path is amusing, probably wouldn't work like that though.

Possibly, because I cannot see them putting skulls in multiplayer maps. Does this mean that the story will be extended if these are for single player addons? I gotta agree with Dustin though, I am very excited!

I can only hope! SP maps would be a nice addition! (Not to mention it shed some light on that screen shot of "Halo 3 Mythic")

Hammer Time, Pull, Blades of Fury, Ghost Patrol, and Post Mortem all refer to performing feats in a ranked or social match on the maps mentioned in the skull achievements. Although I don't understand how a skull in a multiplayer map will work, that seems to be the case.

as much as i want new Sp maps it's not. Assembly is the map they showed at PAX and that map was a MP and there is an achievement for finding a skull on Assembly.

Bungie achknowledged these achievements already. They even out right stated they will come with the TU 2.
They just weren't ready to talk about them. Because they weren't ready to talk about what they are for.
Clearly... and I say clearly because it can't get any clearer those skulls are for multiplayer maps. Assembly is the name of a new multiplayer map.
They aren't going to add new single player levels. They just aren't. It took their entire team, 3 years to make Halo 3. Now most of the team is split on atleast two full games.
Even if they did make a SP expansion, you would play it once, maybe twice. Then you'll either never play it again, or it will be months untill you do.
Its not really worth them putting the resources towards. Multiplayer maps take up less resources, will sell more and will be used by the people who buy them more.

considering that they have already built the game engine and they have had a year or longer to work on it, there's still a chance for more campaign missions. Just because you played campaign only a few times doesn't mean other people don't.

Bungie is actually working on 3 things right now. One releasing soon, one releasing later on the 360, and one still in concept/design phase.
I won't share evidence (which means you probably will call BS) but when it does get announced just remember this little comment......
