Our friends at
Sarcastic Gamer are putting together a very special gaming marathon to benefit the Texas Children's Cancer Center. Set to begin October 18, 2008, Extra Life asks gamers to help raise money during a mass 24 hour gaming marathon. The concept is simple, sign up on the Extra Life website, find four sponsors willing to pay one dollar per every hour played, and start playing on October 18. All of the money earned during the marathon will go to the Texas Children's Cancer Center at Texas Children's Hospital. To find out how you can become part of Extra Life, head over to the official website.

(Before I comment I'd like to note that this is a fantastic idea to help raise money for battling cancer.)
I'm sorry but the PS3's Folding@Home software is infinitely more useful considering you are assisting directly to cure cancer by discovering the way proteins fold and how that process relates to cancer treatment, etc;. Did I mention Stanford University?

Well, actually I don't think that's true. Folding@Home is a great project but hardly infinitely more helpful. It's just a research study. It's not like after Folding@Home runs, it's going to pop out a miracle cure. It's studying folding of structures in relation to many disease types. This money goes directly to changing the life of an actual cancer patient. I'd say Extra Life is quite a bit more direct then Folding@Home. After all, protein misfolds do occur with the disease but there is no proof whatsoever that it's the end-all-cure to a disease. They are studying the effects not a cure.

Sorry if I seemed to state that. I understand its just a research group. But in terms of actually doing something for the long run of finding a cure so other individuals don't suffer in the future, then yeah, its a LOT better.

The 18th is a Saturday, why not move it to a Monday and make it an international holiday?

wouldn't it be better to just go work for an hour and donate the money since it will be more than a dollar?

I have signed up guys. Thanks for bringing my attention to this, as I already have some people who have donated in support. This is a very worthwhile cause, especially with Hurricane Ike just passing through Houston.

Thanks X3F from everybody at Sarcasticgamer.com ... The only question is:
Do you think that Team X3F can raise more money than Team Sarcastic Gamer?
I doubt it. Game on.
