"We couldn't have made it on the Xbox 360 and the reason for that is actually because we designed it around the PS3's strengths" says the Media Molecule folks, explaining that they built Little Big Planet around the PS3's architecture, Blu-ray disc capacity and that "having a hard drive on every unit makes a difference." But they aren't entirely anti-360, admitting that the console is an "incredibly capable machine" that, theoretically, could be home to LBP, "but it'd be a different game." Ouch! And all along we were under the impression that LBP could eventually release to the Xbox Live Arcade way under the 150MB Arcade limit. We guess we were wrong ... ZING!

I own and finished both of those games with COD4 in 1080p and MGS4 in 720p, MGS4 looked much better and isn't even comparable. I don't know how you came to your comment but I suggest you actually put a little more time into it.

WTango, are you serious? MGS4 is far superior to any PS2 game and definitely better looking than COD4. You have obviously never played it. Why does everyone have to trash other system exclusives? You like what you like, I like what I like and everyone has their own opinion. If you dont like the game and arent interested in it, as you all seem to be saying, then stop complaining about it and bashing other systems. LBP is taking over 40gb on the blueray disk because it will contain tutorial videos, the actual game, the base levels and each disk has 2 different paths to complete it. The Dev version and the User version. This is why it takes so much space. Im personally not all that excited about this game, but I will definitely pick it up and try it. I personally prefer to play my PS3 over my XBOX because I am a fan of the PS3 exclusives and my friends are on PS3 and I am just more comfortable with the PS3 controller. (Plus my BOX died) I will then say that im sure some, if not all of you, are fans of Halo but I personally think the game is highly overrated but I am not trying to start flamewars. Most of the greatest games are multiplatform anyway so enjoy what you have. Go ahead, downvote me now.

u guys serious ? i played one of the earlier levels at a friends place, one set in the middle east where the robotic dog and the other robots attack. the buildings all looked blocky and sharp, the textures blurry. cod4 the mid-east levels you get a sense of destruction from the broken buildings and the overall beating the environment has taken. MGS4 did not convey that at all.
still I will admit have not played the whole game so the graphics may get better later on......

Very serious; maybe it would help to compare the games on the same TV and both in their highest resolutions and even then, COD4 is 1080p while MGS4 is only 720p.

Tango,
What did you view the game on?
Whatever you say, MGS4 didn't win Gphoria 2008's Best Graphics award for nothing when put up against COD4.

I'm really intrigued by LBP and it's unique gameplay but can't help feeling that after a couple of hours the novelty will wear off. And this has nothing to do with it being a PS3 exclusive.
Luckliy I have a friend with a PS3 (don't worry he's got both and the 360 came first) so hopefully he'll pick it up and I can try it. Or at the very least a free demo on PSN.
Oh, @2: And I'd be all over a Rube Goldberg type game too ;o)

exactly my thoughts. it just feels like an internet game, or Spore. the novelty would wear off, but not for those that keep generating content.
I for one don't have the time to keep generating new content. besides all my friends are on Live. who would i be sharing that content with? strangers over PSN?

Ryan when you share a certainc created content, or level, it's kinda like a Youtube thing. People will view it and they will download, as long as you publish it. It's kinda like Youtube, when someone makes a video and it depends on how many peopl watch it, or how many comments you got on that video. It's the same wth the program for LBP for sharing stuff. You can share to a private friend, or you can simply publish it for the public to download and play. So you can share it with strangers, or not. Of course, if all your friends are on XBL and you'd like to share with them privately, then I completely understand

The game takes of 40GB of the Blu-Ray disc? Those must be some amazing textures. My guess would be they aren't using a lot of compression, which is why it takes up so much space.

This games screams "MARKETING!!" and so do their comments about the "PS3's strengths." I really don't feel like I'm missing much not playing LBP.

The extra space is only needed for the tutorials. Tutorials = video. Of course video takes up more space. But besides that, it could be a harddrive-required title released on multiple DVDs, and then copied to the hard drive when the new dashboard is released. That would make the issue a moot point.

The potential headline is a lot racier that what the devs seem to have said.
Basically, the developed the game without porting in mind. Thus, porting would be difficult and likely not worth the effort from cost/benefit perspective. The final game would be similar but of course not exactly the same, as the 2 platforms have some significant hardware differences (this is of course no revelation).

1) LBP is an experience. It's kind of like the Wii, if you haven't played it, you don't understand.
2) The game comes with 60 pre-loaded levels. What was the last game you played on 1 disc that had over 60 levels? Add in the infinite ability to generate levels, characters, etc...I can easily understand why this game requires 40Gb.
3) Stop hating! I own a 360 and can't afford a PS3. I belong to the group of players that just want to play good games. Begruding as it may be, you haters need to admit that LitteBigPlanet is a great-looking experience.

it looks fun for a few hours sure. i'll admit it looks attractive. but i just don't see it as a reason to get a PS3 just yet. i'll get LBP after that major reason to get a PS3 happens.
the amount of levels it has makes no difference. if you remember Super Mario Galaxy had well over 60 levels on one disc.

You know, I'm pretty excited about the user-generated level stuff, but a lot of stuff like this never really lives up to its potential. I'm sure it'll get old when I encounter the 20th level based on Stewie from the Family Guy.
That said, I'm still jazzed for this one.

I don't really see why it couldn't be done on the 360. There doesn't appear to be anything special about what they've done with LBP graphically or physics-wise. With their reasoning, they just appear to be biased, whether that be the truth or not.
The references to available data space are always highly questionable, since plenty of devs have made do without.
When it comes to compression, I honestly saw no noteworthy difference between a 1080p Blu-ray Batman Begins and a compressed 720p XBLM Batman Begins. Is there a good multiplatform example where they uncompressed everything on the PS3 version?
The game looks interesting, and I'd like to try it, but it doesn't seem to be something to clamor for, or drop more than a few bucks on.

Did you just compare a movie being played on VIDEO GAME consoles...?

I'm sure that beyond the HDD thing they could have figured it out... but it doesn't matter, because it's exclusive and they never will be seriously trying anyway. So in that sense it barely seems worth anyone getting worked up about.
Looks like a good game either way. I'd buy it right away if I had the spare money for another console.
