The for Far Cry 2 has us wondering just how immersive we want our games to be. In the video above, Far Cry 2 creative director Clint Hocking explains that the player avatar in Far Cry 2 does everything. In other words, the player avatar physically performs every action in the game. There is no magic healing when you pass over a med kit. The camera doesn't simply teleport into a car when you enter it. Every action is accompanied by an animation, whether it be fixing a jammed weapon or (sickeningly) fixing a dislocated joint (seriously, it's gross). Speaking of jammed weapons, Hocking notes that all of the game's weapons and vehicles degrade over time. As guns are used they begin to accumulate dirt and rust and eventually they will simply break in a player's hands. Likewise, vehicles will break down, requiring players to hop out and work on the engine before continuing.
The only question we have now is whether or not players will have to hunt down an in-game Porta-Potty every few hours.
I wonder how they'll manage this weapon/car wearing stuff, without annoying the player... cause i can imagine a big gun fight.... but oh. my gun falls apart... yupee, MELEE :D
Seriously a gun would stop working after years of use, same with a car. Its pretty lame and unrealistic if your guns and vehicles break down after 30 minutes of firing and driving. The only thing I really want this game for is the kick ass editor. I wish it was still in the jungle setting tho :(
to the "goldeneye" idiot, are you stupid do you recall those games? thats just idiotic.
007craft: your right if it wasnt old crappy cars and guns, your not buying them from the nice clean first world shop, your in the middle africa jungle.
and all vehicles, weapons will vary on how much use you will get out of them.
i just really hope that these "degrading" vehicles and weapons aren't based on stuff like how many clips youve fired or how long youve been driving. if im firing my weapon in a clean area and it breaks on me im gonna be fvckin pissed.

Crysis wasn't even that good. It just has orgasmic graphics, and to me, story is more important than graphics or multiplayer.

Wow this does not look remotely like goldeneye in the terms of graphics. You must have sand in your eyes.

In the trailer the bolt/ejection port on the AK47 is on the wrong side. The 'immersive' experience is less so now.

I stand corrected - it's not an AK47 but one of the modern variants in the AK family (judging by the receiver and the ribbed bolt cover)

Guns break down pretty quickly if you're using them in a dusty environment and you're not cleaning them regularly.
