Good news Halo 3 sports fans, Grifball getting off the bench and taking on the Halo 3 Double EXP Weekend. Prepare for high flying hijinks complete with hammers, energy swords, and one highly explosive ball. Honestly, there isn't much more to say about things. We assume you're familiar with Double EXP Weekends. They ... um ... give out twices as many experience points in Halo 3. Oh, and you'll need the Heroic Map Pack. Then again, that's free, so if you don't have it, you probably weren't going to play anyway.

Anything to keep this game afloat, not even a year after it's release it has lost steam, and with Gears 2 coming that will be the final blow, I was a huge Halo 2 fan but H3 sure was a letdown.

Agreed.
You'll get the post, "H3 is most-played on XBL..." but there are so many other new games to play... and H3 just feels labored and random after a while vs COD4.

Unless this has changed without my noticing, Halo 3 is still the most played game on Xbox Live. sure there are some problems here and there, but the game is still alive and well. The first Gears of War isn't exactly tearing up the charts right now, and while I'm sure the sequel will be one of the top games when it's released, I'm not sure it has quite the same amount of staying power in the long run as Halo 3 does.

The game's still fun, but I don't play online anymore. Joining a game and immediately hearing things like "oh man you're such a gay faggot" or hearing someone (pretending to be) masturbating, is just too much.
Then there are the people who play music over the mic.
I pick my games carefully now. The only multiplayer game that hasn't been infected by idiots is Rainbow Six Vegas 2.
MS finally rolled out an option to file complaints against a user. What they need to do is capture randomly snippets of a person's voice chat. So when a complaint is filed, someone can listen to ~20 seconds of this guy's average chat and lay down the banhammer. Xbox Live is going down the drain because of idiots, and MS needs to fix this.

I think Halo 3 is still as viable a game as any. And the whole thing about online being full of people calling eachother names is really overblown, I rarely hear someone say offensive things and I play every day.

@ GANNONSMASH
Gears 1 is nearly twice as old as Halo 3, and as of the week of Aug. 4th it's still in the number 4 spot. And although it's not "tearing up the charts", I'd still say that's pretty damn good for a 2 year old game.
And FYI, this time last year Gears of War was at the number 1 spot as well. Just like, you guessed it, Halo 3 is now, which is almost 1 year old. Basically what I'm saying is everything you just said is flawed. And don't bother arguing with me. I did my research.
And I agree with the OP. Halo 3 isn't as awesome as Halo 2 was. I think a big part of that has to do with the whole Heroic/Legendary map pack playlist crap Bungie has been pulling lately. Anyone who actually paid for the Heroic pack, and not the Legendary, knows exactly what I'm talking about it. It was a crappy move, and let a lot of long time Bungie fans down.

I agree with 343 Guilty Fart, I play almost every day and only about 10% of the games have any kind of trash-talking/douchery, and for that there's always the option to mute everyone. I seriously haven't found a game that's as fun to play consistently online. I actually traded my COD4 to a friend after beating the campaign because I hate it's online.

y is it losing steam? there are still thousands on it on any given day and at most hours of the day... it IS the #1 played 360...
I must say though that GoW2 will topple Halo for a while until new maps come out for COD or Halo

You mean like Halo 3 toppled Gears of War? Of course a new version of a super popular game will be played more than a year old title, doesn't mean it's better and more popular anyway.

GRR I hate grifball. I liked it for about 2 minutes until I started getting hit with d-bag 9 year olds that betray for fun. Actually, no, I didn't even really like it to begin with. I prefer to kill people :-P Same goes for Rocket Tag (why is this a permanent playlist?!?!?!)
At least Infection is next week.

Jeez... let's be honest kids.. how long is a game suppose to stay on top. It's been a year and some tard makes a comment that it's losing steam. On that note is COD4 or Gears of War top dog or have they lost steam?? Gimmie a break. Who cares if it's #1 (which it still is)... the game still has millions of matches played every week. It's not going anywhere. Poor losers complaining about it cause they lack skill... GOW2 looks bad ass.. but from videos... how much of an evolution is it from the first one. COD4 has been using the same engine for years. This complaining about Halo 2 to Halo 3's lack of evolution is sad. If you don't see the difference.. then you were never invested in Halo 3 to begin with. You'll find most of the ones complaining just suck at the game so they get bored. All these titles (Halo, COD, GOW) are awesome but will die down as new games are released. That doesn't mean it suddenly turns into a pile of crap so deal with it.

I think people stop playing Halo 3 because if you're over 12 years old, you get sick of the lag, the inconsistent BR spread, the sucky teammates... you just have better games to play because all these random elements in Halo 3 get old. It's a game a lot of gamers don't even bother playing, to be honest. (I was the only Halo 3 player out of lots of people I knew who had a 360.)
Plus Halo 3 is kinda slow-paced, you can't sprint... & you have to run for the power weapons like pre-schoolers at recess trying to all hog the tricycle... it's a grind after a while.
If you like it, great. I'm just saying... it's not because people can't play it... they just get tired of Bungie's love-it-or-leave-it play style.

Well I'm sorry you haven't had an enjoyable experience with Halo 3 Doug... but it sounds like a personal experience. I have found the same annoyances in other online games as far as age, randomness, and lag. Apparently there are enough people who don't feel the same as you or haven't had the same experiences to keep them from coming back. I don't see how age, lag, inconsistences over a worldwide network are Bungie's fault. It's not the game. Again, you'll find that in any game and everyone's experience is different. I myself find Halo more accessible than others. There could be a lot of reasons for that (skill, connection speed, etc. etc.) If you don't like kids, mute them. There are tons of options and gametypes to appease everyone and have a more enjoyable experience. BTB and Objective games are easier than slayer.

My problem is Bungie's complete retardedness when it comes to how to handle DLC.

This is to wiseguy's first post. I agree (also your me hero at this moment) and you guys are idiots and dont see a great game when there is one. They dont need these double exp weekends to keep there game alive at all, they just love there fans and community plus, yes if there is a new version why would you not play that instead? Get some common sense.

@ Doug u need to get some skill saying that there is no sprint and power weapons. That just cheap stuff. Cod4 is cheap because of sprint (which is not needed in any game) and power weapons you get for being a nerd and playing it the longest. Halo is the best game to show what gamer you really are and if cant accept the fact that there is no sprint and you NEED a power weapon to get a kill you need to step up ur gaming a whole lot if you want to play with the big boys instead of preschoolers

Hey ladies,
The comments I made about Halo 3 were mainly factual. It's the way the game is. You see them as benefits, I don't. BTW... I played the game every day for 6 months. I know how to play the game. It just got to be a grind, and so I sold it.
Judging from your comments, it does seem to attract an adolescent mindset more than COD4 or RSV2.

First of all... since when are your opinions on the game MAINLY FACTUAL (I think the numbers and statistics on the games popularity already prove your bogus theories wrong). Second, you're calling out adolecent mindsets while opening with HEY LADIES?? Look in the mirror pal.
