College football fans have a certain level of passion that you don't see in other college sports and prove it annually by cracking the bank for EA's NCAA Football game. Having been promised the best version the series has ever seen (as sports gamers are told every year), NCAA Football 09 buyers were confronted by a pile of errors and glitches from day one. Today, EA Sports has released an auto-update patch for the football franchise that promises to fix many of the issues found in the game. A list of patch fixes can be found after jump.

One or two people claim their copy didn't get auto-updated. Anyone else not getting the update?

Seems like EA's been posting then taking down the update a lot. Odd.

There's still problems with NCAA other than those. They're trying to take care of the catastrophic ones first.

Actually this patch is not out yet. It just got submitted to Sony and Microsoft for QA and is not expected until later in the month. The patch we received corrected the roster glitches. Thank you EA for selling us a Beta version of a game.

My main problem was with the online dynasty mode and the game not advancing me to the next week and it looks like they still haven't fixed it!

Adding hard drives to console systems has been a double-edged sword. On one hand it allows new map downloads and features...which is a good thing. The bad side is that it allows developers to treat console players the way pc gamers have been treated for years...releasing unfinished buggy shit and patching it later. I think they should have stuck to the no hard drive approach. At least that makes developers take the time to make sure there games are finished and very bug free.

It's not the hard drives - it's more the internet access.

Okay, Xav, you need to update this post because the patch has NOT been released. No one else but Game Stooge is reporting that the patch has gone live, which it hasn't. I've checked: no update.
And we're not talking about the roster patch from earlier in the week.
What a waste of my time checking for the patch, searching the net, logging to easportsworld to see if Dynasty HQ was there.

God forbid it took you 2 minutes to log in and check for an update. Did your hot pocket burn while you were away?

Wrong.

Some other sites reported it. It's not our fault if EA pulled it.

@Jonah: Sorry, but some dinky blog reporting it with no details doesn't constitute someone actually seeing this specific patch as available. Also, we're not talking about patch #1, which came out earlier in the week, a patch focused on rosters. Xav's post is about patch #2. This is partly what is causing confusion: People are seeing *a* patch and think that it's the above one, and it's not.
360fanboy was the only reputable site reporting that patch 2 was available. So, Xav is right: the tipster had no idea what he was talking about and didn't bother to confirm the details of the patch he saw downloaded.
@Matt: Matt, for one, I don't think asking for verified news is too much to ask for. Second, I made the mistake of assuming this report was true, so, when I didn't see the patch, I checked it out in other ways. And every guy in my online dynasty did the same, thinking that some critical bugs were fixed.
@Xav: Thanks for setting it straight.

Hey everyone. We're hearing either the patch was never published or pulled. Personally I think the tip was bullshit and it was my personal fault for not checking it (I don't actually own the game).
I apologize for the error and I personally promise not to pay attention to any tips from Game Stooge, the most aptly name website ever.

Aug 5 - and Operation Sports is extremely reliable when it comes to patch news (they have the developer for Madden and Head Coach 09 posting in the forums right now about development.)
