Talking to videogamer.com, Rare's senior software engineer Nick Burton acknowledged the GoldenEye development difficulties they've gone through saying that "it's incredibly hard to solve because there's so many licence holders involved. You've got the guys that own the license to the gaming rights now, the guys that have the licence to Bond as an IP, and there are umpteen licensees." Burton further explained that Rare doesn't have control over the project anymore and that it's in the hands of licenesee holders, making it almost "locked in this no man's land" of development hell. Long story short: GoldenEye XBLA is vaporware, turning out to be nothing but a sparkle of a dream of hope and nothingness. Got it?

Nintendo did not publish Rare's M-rated games on the N64, they were self-published by Rare, which means there's no contest from Nintendo's point of view
The rights to re-distribute the Banjo games were purchased by Rare back when Nintendo sold their controlling interest in Rare's stock, selling the IP to boot, though Nintendo did publish those.

Nintendo was the Publisher.
GoldenEye 007 was only a teen rated game.
I would love to see this game come on over to XBLA just for the nostalgia feeling.

@Robert SRT,
Read the comments, the thread you replied to isn't discussing GoldenEye; it's talking about Perfect Dark, the other Rare N64 FPS. Which was M rated, and was published by Rare, as Mr. Kahn said.

I sure hope so.
Perfect Dark is one of my all-time favorites; I'd kill to play this redone on XBLA.

MS is so big that I have to imagine they could figure all of this out. I really wish they would... Can't underestimate a $10 FPS on XBLA, particularly if it's Goldeneye. They'd easily make enough money off of it to offset the licensing costs and such.
Oh well.

i agreed with what Nintendo is doing they should keep their classic to their system and let this game come out on 360 only if it should be release for wii.

i don't like remake much because i believe they may kill what was great once by updating it.there also the fact that game is not the fps that it once was back in the day.
In other word Golden eye was good when its was release but it not good for a fps of today standard.

Actually, I still play GoldenEye every once in a while, and I have to say, it's a lot more fun than some of the Xbox 360's games. I don't think it would be outdated at all. Just kinda old feeling...
