If it's free to play it's on my radar.
If there's a fee then forget it.

I assume either this is a very small superhero named Captain Tampon or he fights crime in the arctic tundra.

This is a game being developed by Cryptic Studios and published by 2K. The Marvel MMO, was being developed under contract by Cryptic Studios and was being published by Microsoft. It was Microsoft who negotiated the rights with Marvel to use their characters/universe, and it was Microsoft who pulled the plug on the Marvel MMO. I'm sure given the choice 2K would prefer to publish a Marvel MMO instead of a Champions one... but the rights are still most likely tied up with MS.

I am -so- hyped for this game. I loved CoX but I am burned out on PC gaming. I am thrilled that this will be on the 360 with both dedicated 360 only servers and mixed PC/360 servers..
The argument about fees has gotten so friggin' old though. They have to pay for servers, bandwidth, in game support, expansion development (which were free in CoX and will hopefully be free in CO), and other costs associated with running an online game. Get over it already. I am more than happy to pay a monthly fee for a good game.

I dunno, this is so awesome... but I have a sentimental connection to CoX (shush AoE... ... even though that is funny), so I feel like I'm abandoning CoX if I get this game.
...but hell, if they have an MM-esque class... I seriously cannot deny it. (I love my MM)

If this is anything like City of Heroes/City of Villains, it will be cool for a little while, then quickly get boring with the grind.
I have some great COH/COV characters, but I don't play anymore because it's so DULL. Take away the customized characters, and it's just repetitively pressing the same few keys over and over. There's barely any strategy involved, and you're always grinding to get more stuff.
That kind of MMORPG just bores the crap outta me. Maybe someday, someone will make a MMORPG that doesn't focus on the grind, and instead plays out more like a non-MMO title, with actual ROLE PLAYING elements.
If there's no grind, I'm interested in this, but I shudder to think of how many Wolverine clones I'll be forced to deal with in the game world.

They're acting like "Champions" was the first (and only) superhero RPG. It wasn't. There was also V&V (Villains & Vigilantes) before this came along.
On top of that, Champions was never a very good system. It had a lousy, overly-complex game mechanic, while V&V was basically the old D&D rules with some alterations. After that, there were tons of other superhero RPGs.

V&V didn't make it out of the 1980's.
Champions is still around today as the Hero Games System (and Champions supplement). They're going top publish a new version of the rules next year.
While there may have been other Super Hero games systems (including multiple Marvel and DC attempts at games), Champions is still out there and still being published to this day.

The Champions combat system created by Hero Games should be a great guideline for making a Super Hero MMO. I have played Champions and with the rule system for powers and abilities you can virtually make any power. Cryptics previous hero game had some limitations in character development and interactions in the world this game should improve on those short comings. Hopefully they will use the Champions rule system for its Strengths (Customization, Creativity and Ingenuity). Only one weak point with Champions is the D6 based damage system it will be interesting to see if that is present in the Skill systems.

According to the articles I've read, this one just has the ips from Champions. It's not actually based on the Champions role playing system.
