With Call of Duty: World at War returning to the familiar territory of WWII, and the series' current hit staking the claim of Modern Warfare it would seem to make sense that Infinity Ward would want to jump things into the future. If this ends up being accurate (heck, they could be working on a non-COD sci-fi game too) let's hope Infinity Ward can do better than some other popular franchises that have used a futuristic setting. We can't help but get flashbacks of the ill-fated Battlefield: 2142 ...

Not another Sci-Fi Shooter come we already have enough of those?Halo,Resistance,Killzone,Gears of War come do we need more.
Maybe Call of Duty 5 or six can include Guns from that TV show Future Weapons.

LOL wow...
So four games in one genre/setting is to many? Not to mention that two of them are for the PS3. Seriously dude, think before you type. There are far more games based in a modern or WWII setting then anything else.
Anyway, if CoD6 is Sci-fi and it's being developed by IW then i see nothing wrong with it.

Well FEAR, and all those games sequals including timeshift and haze must I go find more cause I will there are too many we don't need another one and you need to think before you type cause probably everyone knows its the truth but you and when did platform matter this is CoD they always go multiplat.
Sure you may not find a prob with them but for me in 2009 I'd rather not see a Sci-Fi CoD.

The coming together of Activision & Vivendi is sweeter than bourbon & coke, rumors are already suggesting IW will do something with Blizzard, can u say Starcraft Ghost? or World of COD?
I don't think we'll get another installment of COD:MW in 2009, reading into interviews post COD4 launch tip towards the IW team doing something else which would delay the 'supposed' yearly schedule of COD releases. But on the flip side IW's recent employment drive to grow their internal teams reasures me that theres definately something big underway.

I hope that IW's next project is given the name COD5, and that Treyarchs will just be the red headed step-child of the COD series. Not every game needs to be a number (Grand Theft Auto proved that with Vice City and San Andreas) so I don't see why that couldn't work out.
I'm not sure what could be improved upon if IW were to make another modern warfare COD game. They pretty much nailed it the first time around, with the exception of the grenade pooping mechanic that draws so much ire 'round these parts.
A future war theme might be cool, if it had absolutely nothing to do with aliens, and the tech was actually seemingly plausible (unlike the bipedal mechs and massive flying battle stations in certain other near-future games). If they were to turn COD into Halo though, I'd ditch the series harder than I ditched Perfect Dark after playing the 360 version (never....ever again).

A Future Warfare edition is not a bad idea, and I welcome it. I don't think we are talking Star Wars here. War has changed every 10 years or sooner. Look at the tech our guys in Afghanistan and Iraq are using now compared to when they first went in. Then compare that to Desert Storm. If they went 10-20 years into the future, it could be both "sci-fi" and still believable. There analysts and military advisers could certainly help them look at stuff right around the corner and keep their feet nailed to the ground. If they do, and keep the XP and prestige systems within multi-player, it's sure to be a hit.

Really? I thought a lot of our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan didn't even have body armor or protected vehicles? And aren't like 300,000 of our forces now Iraqis using old soviet rifles?

Haven't heard that. I'm specifically talking about the improvements in battlefield technology. Predator, water breaching technology, room busters, etc. I've heard the body armor shortage, but there certainly isn't a shortage of Colt assault rifles. We aren't going to fit our troops with Russian weapons. But that's neither here nor there. There have been massive improvements to battlefield tech in the last 10-20 years.

Ah, just looked this up. There is some info on US troops acquiring AK-47's in the field, and preferring them over the M-16's and M4's because of the the 7.62 round versus the 5.56. But the military isn't supplying our troops with Russian weapons.

How about the miserable results when you mix sci-fi and WWII a la Resistance: Fall of Man.

Screw it. IW just give us a version of COD based on G.I. Joe. That would be awesome.
