THQ: Saints Row 2 and GTAIV are 'very different'

Saints Row 2 will be releasing on ~~August 26th~~ October 14th and THQ wants everyone to know that it isn't just a GTAIV clone, that Saints is its own creation and is an experience "totally different" than what Rockstar offers. Or so says THQ CEO Brian Farrell who, during a recent conference call, admitted that "we're always concerned about GTA as a competitor" but mentioned that with Saints Row 2 they "have a very differentiated product in this open-world genre" that has more "tongue-in-cheek ... silly, over-the-top gameplay." And we have no reason to doubt Mr. Farrell. We like Saints Row for what it is, not trying to be overly serious and focusing more on the gameplay shenanigans rather than a serious, deep storyline. Heck, with Gary Busey peddling your product, you have to have some amount of humor. Right?

Of course they're different, as in the title of the game.

But seriosuly, I really want to know the differences between Saint Row and GTA. Did anyone play the first one.

I really enjoyed saints row and can't wait for the second one. The first one was not like GTA. PS3 owners say that because they can't/haven't play it. If you haven't played it don't judge.

I disagree, I thought it was hella like GTA... but 10% better in everything it did.... I'm hoping the same is true of Saints Row 2

I had a great time playing the 1st SR, and look forward to it's 2nd version esp with jump in/out co-op like Crackdown offered. I just wish it allowed 4 player co-op over live.

i can't wait. if SR2 is as differnt from GTA as SR1 was then i'll be a happy camper.

GTA IV is totally un-fun after the inital wow factor over the graphics dies away. The game underneath is pretty repetitive and boring. I never even finished it or booted it up again after the first 4 days.

SR1 on the other hand. I played till my fingers nearly fell off. Way past the end of the storyline I went on to complete every objective and achievement. It's fun through and through.

SR2 is gonna rock so hard. Can't wait.

Sadly i bet it still gets a lower game review rating than GTA IV. Just because of the fanboyism around GTA.

I went back and played SR1 and even that is a better game that GTA IV, when it comes to fun factor and execution of controls.

Well I'll be the controversial one here and say I liked BOTH.

But +1 to SR for having the best side missions in a game EVER! Insurance Fraud. It better be in SR2 or there'll be trouble!
