MS wants to be first out of the gate with Xbox 720

Talking with VentureBeat, Xbox 360 boss Robbie Bach chatted about where the Xbox brand is headed next generation, reconfirming their plan to be the first out of the console release gate once again. "
If you take the question of whether it was the right thing to try to be first [with Xbox 360], the answer to that is definitely yes" Bach told VentureBeat, "it has given us a leg up with game developers. It has given us a leg up from an economics perspective. It helped us expand Xbox Live quickly. At a strategy level, if you asked if we wanted to be first again, I would say yes." Plain and simple. Then again, trying to beat the PS4 to market won't be all that hard for Microsoft seeing that Sony has publicly announced their plans to make it a ten year console. Right? Xbox 720 in 2011, bring it on!

Don't count me out just because I like my PS3, but as a engineering student, I do know the 360's manufacturing build was rushed. I think it would be smart to come out with the new Xbox in 2011 because of the limitations of the size of dvds, but they can't rush it like they did last time.

Lions and tigers an TROLLS oh MY!
You Sony Trolls need to STFU!
You are clueless, and yes there will a new xbox WAY before the next overpriced, overhyped PS console. The XBOX this generation will be better, cheaper with a better game selection. If Sony holds true to there 10 year plan they will be so far behind the technology curve it won't be funny, well to them it won't be!
If companies followed Sonys rule what would we have now???????
We would still have only
Psone
n64 (gamecube has not been around 10 years yet)
and PCs would be running
Voodoo and Geforce2 mx
Sega Saturn
and a Gameboy
Yes they would have real power!
Why don't you Sony Trolls go away, we don't welcome your bull, you can say well I own all 3 but then you start slamming the 360. You are just a jealous crowd with a overpriced blu-ray player and a piss poor selection of games overall!

It's Microsoft. I didn't bring any fanboyism to the comment and you know the 360 has manufacturing problems. We also know you can't make a next-gen game with the same size of game data from last gen. (DVD for the technology impaired.) Also for the 10 year plan...Whats wrong with it now? I mean the PS3 has Blu-ray, Bluetooth, not to mention its almost the most powerful computer sold to the public. I think I was pretty neutral in the last comment, but it seems some people can't stand to hear the facts.

you do know that when they say 10 year life span, they dontmean they will wait 10 years for the next one right? they still are supporting ps2, and ps1 was supported up to a few years ago still. thats what they mean.
It would be nice if ms does this from nwo on, it was pretty lame that xbox was completely killd at 360 launch, but thats because it was still costing them money, this time around they are actually inthe black, so they dont have to kill the system off right away

Well it wouldn't surprise anyone to see an XBOX 720 out in 2-3 years. But the OP's comment about the PS3's 10 year life cycle does not mean we won't see a PS4 after 5 years of the PS3 being out. The "10 year life cycle" has been apart of every Sony system launched. It just means they support that system for 10 years. They have generally launched a new system every 5 years though. I would guess that a new MS system should arrive in 2010 and a new PS in 2011.

You are probably right, but something in those comments seem they were talking about the console. We will probably see a redesigned PS3 in 3yrs, but most likely a "elite".
For the Xbox, MS isn't the most reliable to past products.(XP,Xbox 1).

@troop23 - You were neutral in your initial post. Polarizing gamers (and attracting trolls on these message boards) is like shooting fish in a barrel.
The only issue I have with the PS3, however, concerns the installations necessary for some of the games. This seems like somewhat of a design flaw to me. Devil May Cry 4 apparently has a 5 Gigabyte install, which means someone who initially bought a to 20 GB HD PS3 is undoubtedly going to run out of hard drive space quickly.
IMHO, this seems like a hasty manufacturing decision. Sony should have known that this would be an issue before putting it on the shelves.

Besides this obvious troll, I doubt they'll allow that mistake to happen twice.

I'm not trolling. the only system I have is a 360, I'm playing it right now matter of fact. But you can't deny that it had some problems due to the hardware being rushed out.

no.. It was manufacturing issues. The console itself is good.

What kind of blind fanboyism is this? I love my 360 as much as anyone, but one would be foolish to think that the 360 doesn't have *extremely* troubled hardware.
You can design as great a machine as you want, but if "manufaturing defects" and taking down 1 in 3 machines, and many people are going through *many* consoles in a matter of months, it isn't worth squat.

Correction.
I'm pretty sure the 360 my brother just got does not have the same manufacturing issues that last year's had.
Stop acting like MS is retarted and didn't change the motherboard set up and heat sinks.

Amen to that! My 360Wiibox combo has a couple years of life at which point the PS3 will have enough decent games (& price drops) I'll prob get one.
As for a 2011 Xbox I'll prob wait a year after launch unless there is some absolute must play title because I too tire of being a first adopter and paying the price.
I think new console launches should always be staggered so we don't have to wait so long between technology upgrades & can afford to own them all instead of having to chose one over the other! :)

Dude, Microsoft will come out with Halo 4 without Bungie, and it's going to fail. When Halo 3 came out Bungie's contract expired and they broke free from working for Microsoft. It's like working for EA games.

^ so why are they still working with Microsoft even though their contract is up?
