In a year that'll the see the release of Fable 2, Microsoft and Square-Enix have been quiet about the action-RPG Infinite Undiscovery. In the first news we've heard of the 360 exclusive in some time, the game has received its official release date: September 2. Also released was another trailer, which gives some story hints and shows off some of the real time gameplay. The fans of the more traditional Japanese RPGs may not find this to be exactly to their liking, given that it is not turn based, but the game seems to be a good hybrid and could provide a good entrance point for those in the 360's more traditional demographics.
This game look really good the last time they released info, but after seeing the new vid im not so sure about this title. I hope they start releasing more information in the comming months
Looks a lot like Lost Odyssey, but not different enough. Hopefully the future marketing will push what make this different than your eternal sonata and mistwalker games.
Looks interesting. PLEASE let there be an option for Japanese voices. If I have to play the game listening to those corny sounding American voices shouting their moves ("Peacock Blue!" WTF?)I'll turn the sound off.
"Generic" compared to other Japanese RPGs, but fairly original, compared to the drag, "brown" shooters on our dear system. One of those characters looked kinda like Freya from Valkyrie Profile (similar clothing).
The detail looked nice, the characters looked kinda... similar in the face, but other design elements looked cool.
I'd love to see some Tri-Ace classic chars pop up as guest in this game (so many where in Star Ocean TtEoT, Even Radiata Stories)... current-gen quality Lenneth or Lezard FTW! Or get really surprising, and put some Batien Kaitos charas in there...
I'd love to introduce Square to a thing called lip sync as there was none present in the trailer. Hopefully thats only because the English localisation isn't done and they just dubbed the trailer.
The game looks fantastic though and its again a shame that people just don't know about it. I remember it way back being announced and today was the first time i'd ever actually seen a trailer for it.
Assume it's just dubbed as the rest of the footage seems to have Japanese text., but as both Philosophy and myself have already said, the original japanese voices better be available or else they'll just be turned off!
oh man, the voice acting is terrible. There also seems to be no effert to get it in since with their mouth movements either.
Like somebody else said... i really hope theres a jap voice over included on the disc, as theres no way i'd be able to put up with over the top corny american accents.
There's also noticable frame rate issues too..which seeing as the games being released in sep means that this is a near as damnit final code that we're seeing... maybe theres a reason why microsofts been unusually quiet over a square exclusive.
Cool looking, I guess - but I'm not a fan of JRPGs. One question, though: What's with the ridiculously similar naming scheme? Final Fantasy, Lost Odyssey, Infinite Undiscovery... The names are almost synonyms to each other, hehe.
I don't know about these PS2 comparisons. I really suggest people go back and look at games like FFXII. Even just the character models don't compare here.
I think it has some potential. The tiny bits we know about the gameplay have promise and I'm generally a fan of this developer's work.
That's not the actual English voices for the game. They shot the Japanese game and dubbed the video. Game doesn't come to the US til September, you know.
Loved the first video, love the second video. I'm a big JRPG fan, so I'm hoping this outing by Square-Enix without Hironobu Sakaguchi and Nobuo Uematsu (of Final Fantasy fame, who are both at Mistwalker now). I'll get even if it comes out on 60 discs.
The graphics here doesn't even compare to the PS2 - one of the reasons why I havent gone back to the PS2 to finish FFXII, FF7:DC and Star Ocean. I'm more tied up with the JRPGs on the 360 - Blue Dragon (now 1000GS), Lost Odyssey (3rd disc) and Eternal Sonata (barely started).
You can clearly see that the video is dubbed over. Personally I prefer my anime subbed and my JRPGs dubbed. Lost Odyssey set a new frontier in Lip Synching in the English version (or at least with my Asian import which had English as an option), so lets hope they see the competition and adapt - so many developers can be oblivious to the other competition and fail at the new standards.
So, September 2nd for the US? I guess thats what, February 21st 2009 for Europe? Square-Enix from the FF series are notorious for pushing release dates further and further back, especially for Europe (damned so many languages to sort out), so looks like I'll be importing this one.
"Wow it is true you look like twins!"
Yea funny that, thats because everybody looks the same due to very generic character design not some some stupid separated at birth plot line. Silly woman!
This game looks very generic for a square game, poor graphics, generic character design, bad voice acting... If square keep making games like this companies like Mistwalker who can make an impressive looking RPG are really going to hurt them

After hearing about this game a while ago, and being very excited for it... I have to say that video was about as generic as generic gets.
I'm still holding out hope that it'll be great... but not a lot of hope.

I concur! Especially seeing it sounded like Pikachu. I'm mildly annoyed that you managed to write almost exactly what I was going to say, but atleast it means I'm not alone (and neither are you). Animé should always be watched in Japanese (without English subtitles if possible, unfortunately I can't speak Japanese, yet) and that goes for Japanese style games too.

It does look like a HD upscaled, slightly tweaked PS2 graphics.
I hope the game is good though.

Oh look! It's every JRPG that's ever been made!
Why not just call it Final Kingdom Grandia Mana Fantasy Hearts Odyssey Chronicles XVI and get it over with!
Seriously, how many of these types of games are beginning to all blend together and look and play the same?
