Guitar Hero World Tour is officially official
Finally, after what seems like months of magazine scans confirming its existence, Activision just officially announced the next true installment in the Guitar Hero franchise (you don't count Aerosmith), originally dubbed Guitar Hero IV, will now officially be known as Guitar Hero World Tour.
As expected, World Tour will add singing and drum playing to the mix, featuring what they call the best drum set peripheral EVAR, a reworked guitar peripheral and Acti promising that all peripherals will be wireless as well. With features like a Band Career Mode, online integration and the ability to record and share music, Activision is also touting World Tour's track list which they admit will be the largest list of any GH game featuring bands like Van Halen, Linkin Park, The Eagles and Sublime.
So, now that it's official and we have some concrete deets, do you think World Tour will give Rock Band some competition and will you be checking out World Tour later this year?

I for one will not be getting this version of GH. The DLC is the kicker... GH2 and GH3 had big promises but little was delivered to the consumers. Rockband gave us what we wanted so they will get my money from here on out.

I think this will light a fire under Harmonix to add the ability to make your own custom tracks for Rock Band.
Competition is usually pretty good for everyone involved although part of me hates to see Activision ripping off Rock Band so shamelessly.

My question is how many people are going to spend the time to make custom tracks? And more importantly how many of them are going to be good?

If their drumset is compatible with Rock Band, which I really doubt, I might buy it (the drumset, not the game). Otherwise, not interested.

They pushed so hard against guitar compatibility that I'm very hesitant on this because of the new drum design. An additional pad does not bode well for that sort of thing (not to mention an additional one on top of that for Konami's game).
You think they could come up with a name for this that wasn't present in Rock Band already. I know World Tour is fairly generic, but it still comes off poorly.

Linkin Park and The Eagles? Thank God! GHIII didn't have nearly enough shitty bands in it! Hopefully when they say Van Halen, they mean the *real* VH...you know, the Sammy Hagar years.
Yeah, no. Sorry Activision, Rock Band has stolen my heart, and my money, and will continue to for the forseeable future.

Sammy Hagar? That's a joke, right?

I really hope he was joking. There is no Van Halen without David Lee Roth.

what i'm actually afraid of is the bands' exclusivity. activision locked up aerosmith and no doubt's, i'd hate for the Eagles' properties manager to be dumb enough to agree to the same.
more platforms = more money = more band awareness.

The Eagles are shitty? wow.......i understand linconln park, but the eagles are one of the greatest bands ever.......there not the best, but still one of the greatest....Hotel california on GH would be pretty sweet, and Burritos by Sublime......

If you think the Eagles are shitty, you should go off yourself right now. Even putting them on the same level as Linkin Park?! Just... wow.

I will pick it up as I like music, and really as long as there aren't any songs that overlap RB, I'll pick it up.
Oh, and one more thing, I'll only get it if WE GET MORE JIMI F'N HENDRIX!!!!!!!
Really, I've been PO'd since GH2 left the man out, and every franchise since, I mean, sure, Spanish Magic Castle....nice, BUT I want some more. How can Legends of Rock only have 1 Legend? You can't pluralize 1 guy.

Seriously.....Gimmee Hendrix and Zeppelin and i will buy the game, with all the peripherals......they had me sold at sublime, but Hendrix and Zeppelin would make it the best music game out.......

I'm not a fan of Rock Band due to the hammer-ons with the guitar. They're really hard to read. This is all that is keeping me away from Rock Band and those awesome drums.
Now that GH has drums I will be picking this up for sure. Despite the lame video.

Rock Band owns.....Plain and simple. Personally having gone from being able to 5* all the hard songs and beat every single Expert song on Guitar Hero II, Except Jordan (F You Buckethead ARGHHH!) I played Guitar Hero III and got to Raining Blood on Hard and decided it wasn't worth it to grind it out and try to beat Hard and then Expert. To me the note charts sucked big time and were no longer as much fun. Gamertag: Syko 360 for proof....
Probably going to rent Guitar Hero Aerosmith to see if they improved the note charts on the new games if not I predict an Epic failure...Plus as Puffin said the DLC is always a bust so Rock Band will continue to get my money.
