First, let's talk confirmed details. We just learned that the Halo 3 Legendary Map Pack will be released to the XBLM on Tuesday, April 15th for a price of 800 Microsoft points. The new map pack will be comprised of three maps including Ghost Town and two others that have been veiled in secrecy. And, great new for us, this morning Bungie lifted the veil off one of those mystery with the announcement of a Halo: CE Sidewinder inspired map called (drum roll ...) Avalanche! So ... let's talk about it!
Like we said, Avalanche is a re-imagined version of the Halo fan favorite Sidewinder, staying true to the original's snowy scenery and u-shaped layout. But there are a few changes. Avalanche will feature a few additions including a plethora of snow camouflaged vehicles (including Scorpions and Hornets), man cannons and general map tweaks. Though, there will be a few things missing from Avalanche that were semi-iconic in good old Sidewinder. Bungie decided to remove the middle tunnel that ran through the map, because they wanted to focus on vehicular combat and also got rid of those evil, evil ladders. Other than that, Avalanche is a Sidewinder fan's dream come true. Joy!
Jump on over to Bungie.net to read a quick Q&A session with the map's designers and flip through the new Avalanche screenshots we added to the gallery below. Oh, we almost forgot! The geekiest-cool Avalanche factoid is that the map is located on the (WARNING: campaign spoiler alert) the currently under construction Halo installation that we see at the end of Halo 3. Geeky to the max!

I dunno about this being a true remake of sidewinder... The Map maker in question never worked on the original and apparently made this focus to much on the vehicle combat, when really what made Sidewinder was not only its general set up (the U-shape) but also the fact that there were plenty of options.

800 pts? I don't know about this one. I bought the last map pack and I don't feel like I got my money's worth out of them.

NICE cant wait for this DLC. Halo is a game i can play for hours on end. I wonder if now that the first DLC will be free if it moves to ranked.
Talk about a bunch of cheap a$$es, 800 points is only $11 dollars guys. If thats too much for you then maybe you should get some more subscribers on your paper route.

11 bucks or 1/6 of the cost of a game is a lot for 3 individual maps. Specially when compared to the pricing of the maps in halo 2. It was 5 bux a pack for 4-5 maps if I recall...

That's very cool. I remember good times on Sidewinder in Halo: CE. I was a little disappointed with Containment (not horrible, but not that great), so hopefully this one is closer to the mark.
$10 doesn't even show up on my radar. It's ten-f*cking-dollars, whiners. That's TWO beers. I can't believe people still complain about this shit.

Gotta love the usual LIL KIDS CANT AFFORD $10 remarks.
I'm 19, From England, been through school, been through college and i work full time. I could easily afford to pay but i choose not to. What you don't realize is Downloadable content is new, developers are simply testing the waters.
Seeing how far they can push it, how much they can charge and get away with.
If you think it's ok to pay $10 for three maps then more fool you, only setting yourselves up for getting screwed in the future. I usually try not to bash people for paying for these things, it's there choice, i think it's stupid but hey it's not my money.
But when you get these people come on here and accuse people of not being able to afford it - when chances are mummy and daddy payed for their 360, their Live subscription and their Microsoft points it's a bit much.
