Microsoft's own Aaron Greenberg flat out told Reuters that Sony's Blu-ray technology would not be integrated into the 360 saying that "Xbox is not currently in talks with Sony or the Blu-ray Association to integrate Blu-ray into the Xbox experience". So, can we now officially put to rest any rumors or talk of Microsoft releasing an Xbox 360 Blu-ray attachment? Please?

I spent 12 hours waiting in the rain, then got stabbed, to get my launch 3t0. I even hacked it to run Doom.

Um, Microsoft just confirmed they're going to make a Blu Ray attachment. They're denying they're going to make a 360 with a Blu-Ray drive installed in the console itself.

They are being very specific in saying integrate, there is no mention of the words "add-on" which is probably what they are going to do considering their stance on consumer choice.

The key word is "integrated".

@Jonah -- Where's that conformation? I only saw rumors, and then this interview with Reuters saying "no blu-ray for XBox."
This is a pretty shitty move, though. One one hand, I'm glad they're putting the speculation to rest and now we can consider getting a stand-alone player (or *gasp* a PS3), but on the other hand I'm not sure why MS would want to shoot themselves in the foot by making this statement, all but solidifying the decisions of many (my friends included) as to what game console they're going to get.

If you are buying a console based on a format player, why have you waited so long? Most of us buy consoles because of the games, don't we? PS3 = high def movies/lack of games....

Unfortunetly if the 360 never comes with a BluRay drive I think it may hurt sales.. Ignorant gamers who go to the store undecided and look at the 360 and the PS3, I'm afraid they're going to go with what they think is the better value. They'd be wrong but that's why ignorant people keep buying PS3's, they don't realize there are next to no decent games and end up buying BluRay movies to fill their empty, meaningless lives.

They're not in talks because the talks are over (and it's happening)...

I wont ever consider buying a ps3.I wont buy bluray either. The fact is our 360's can stream high definition content from our pc's for free. Why pay for these players or a ps3 which is a waste of space and a shitty game machine as well.I can download bluray rips hddvd rips.I can also upconvert my entire dvd collection on my 360.
The whole bluray thing is a huge fars.I owned a hddvd player my cousin owns a bluray player.I have a 52" hdtv and the diffrence doesnt get me hyped between upconvert and true hd films.
If people were smart and wanted to save a buck they would just download and stream. With the money i spend on a twenty five dollar movie i could get the movie free and get chinese food or pizza.
Your hard drive is like a digital movie menu system and it doesnt require shelfspace filled with ugly dvd/bluray cases. Also if you get sick of the movie delete it and you dont lose a dime. And when the format goes byebye no regrets.

The quote:

Not 'integrated into the Xbox', but into the entire business. Therefore, according to Greenberg, the 360 will not see Blu-Ray on the 360 - integrated or addon.
Bad move. Very bad move, considering the support for HD-DVD. You want to keep PS3s out of people's homes; people are buying PS3s specifically for that!

Even if they make an add on its not gonna change.Whats more apealling to idiots that buy bluray.Built in player or having to buy a console and then buying the player seperatly. The average consumer isnt aware of what happens when you watch movies on your game drive.
The ps3 can keep bluray its a nonfactor in gaming.Remember one thing go to vgchartz and look at SOFTWARE sales.
The 360 and wii outsell ps3 software by huge margins. Not becuase theres more of them in homes but becuase people are buying ps3's as movie players.

I'm confused. Did Microsoft confirm and deny it in the same day? How in the world does that end speculation?

Well, alright. That's the denial I've been waiting for. I guess I'll go ahead and buy a PS3 now. Who knows, maybe they'll start putting out some decent games as well. After all, PSN is free, maybe after 5 years I can stop paying to play online.

Does this mean that future game titles will come in the form of 4 DL-DVD discs? This sucks! I dont really care about blu-ray movie watching. I just want my xbox360 games on one disc!!!
