When the Halo 3 beta was announced gamers were perplexed at the notion that they'd only be able to enjoy online Halo-hyjinx if they threw down the money for Crackdown. Eventually the "Halo 3 beta with a free copy of Crackdown" jokes out when Crackdown turned out to be a solid title. While we didn't think anyone would be brave enough to force another purchase on us in hopes to test an anticipated title, we were wrong.
Today GameSpot is reporting that Capcom has outlined plans to follow in Microsoft's shoes by offering a free beta key for Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix to gold Xbox Live members who purchase, the recently renamed, Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3. Upon spending 800 MS Points ($10) for Commando 3, eligible gamers will be able to take part in the stress test for approximately eight-weeks with access to two classic characters, Ryu and Ken.
The test is scheduled to begin shortly after the release of Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3, which hits this Spring. According to Capcom, tests are required to test latency issues for the upcoming XBLA fighting game. Based on Capcom's past of online fighting issues, we think this test is warranted.

'This spring' agreed - the vagueness is frustrating.
Also, there is a difference here. Halo 3 was the most hyped title IN HISTORY. When launched, its grossed the most amount of money on its launch day - not in videogame history, but in GLOBAL ENTERTAINMENT HISTORY.
Also, for people who didn't want to pony up for crackdown, there was the the Phase I&II entries. Here, its only the pay to play. And...aren't Ryu and Ken the same character (in functionality)? Halo 3 had 3 levels, with quite a few of the new features.
Lastly, this is an ARCADE game.
I for one disagree with this attempt to try and sell copies of Commando 3, and while I will buy SFII HD on its release, I am not going to pay $10 to play a game that I will have to pay $10 again for. I didn't do for Crackdown (I was Phase I). Especially since I am not looking forward to this game NEARLY as much as I was for Halo 3.
I would've accepted this notion, especially considering past Capcom online problems, however there is NO way to enter without paying. So no, wont work on me.

This is not an issue for me since I was planning on purchasing both these games anyways. So on my end this is sweet because I'll get to play SSF2Thdr that much sooner and lets face it, Ken and Ryu are all that matter anyways:)
The rest is cannon fodder.

@El Capitaine,
I don't understand why this has you so worked up... It's a beta and it's not unreasonable for Capcom to limit the number of beta users. You know why betas exist, right? it's to work out bugs, NOT to give users free games. There'll be a free demo for you to download when the game is released.
And yeah, I'm sure Capcom is trying to raise awareness of Commandos 3, but don't be thick. Anyone who buys any game, regardless of price, JUST to get in on a beta is cracked in the head. If you buy a game, it should be to buy the game, not because you get to be an unpaid tester for a few weeks on another game.
And yes, Ken and Ryu do have similar play styles (though any high-level street fighter player will tell you that they do play pretty differently), but since this is a beta, and they're trying to test the online capabilities, it doesn't matter as long as people play matches online. Betas exist for the company to work out bugs, not to give gamers with a sense of entitlement early access to unfinished games.
Also, for the record... I don't know you personally and I don't work for Capcom, so I don't know all the details... but I'm *pretty sure* they don't owe you shit, so stop acting offended.

If Commando3 is any good then I'll pick it up, and Super Turbo will be a nice added bonus. But I wouldn't buy a game I did not want (XBLA or Retail) just to get a demo or test a Beta.
Unless Akuma was one of the playable characters...
