Remember when we said that soon we'd have more information on Lost Planet: Colonies? Well we weren't lying, as this week's Famitsu confirmed a ton of information about the game. First and foremost, this is not an entirely new game, this is a remake of the original with more assets and expanded multiplayer. Think of it as similar to Ninja Gaiden Sigma, only for the same console. Hmmm, so that explains why the ESRB was able to rate it so early ... Anyway here's some of the things listed in the article as new:
- New Multiplayer modes, including Humans VS Akrid
- 4 New maps, 2 of which are possibly a city and a desert
- New Female Playable Character
- Ten New weapons
- New Monsters
- Trial Battle and Score Attack modes for the campaign bosses
- 360/PC Cross-platform play

I never played the original (other than the demo very briefly), and I've got lots of other titles to finish.
Is it (the original) worth going back and picking up - or is this new one going to be a definite must have (since I missed the first)? I just never really saw what all the fuss was about.

Remake dead rising with co-op 4fs and I'll pay full price. I don't care about crappy lost planet, it wasn't much good from the demo i played.

This explains why the achievements looked so multi-player heavy. From the looks of it, the main mode of this game is really multi-player. The original Lost Planet, while having good enough multi-player, was a lot more focused on the campaign mode. Here, campaign mode will be tweaked, but it still takes a back seat to multi-player. And yes, I typed multi-player in every sentence of this comment. I

I really enjoyed Lost Planet, especially the VS suits (the mechs) and the old-school boss battles. The giant worm was awesome fun aswell.
At first I found it a bit weird the way the aiming reticule moves before you turn but quickly got used to it.
I'd say go for it, but that's just my opinion. I had it as a rental so never had time to try the multiplayer in the first one.

i got lost planet... good graphics... repetitive gameplay... annoying stumbling animation... i called it the stumbling simulator.... everytime you got shot or a bomb went off you stumbled for what seemed like a minute before you could get control of the character again... ugh! sold on ebay...

For the right price, it'll be worth it to check out! Otherwise though.. if they try to put it up for $60, I think i'll pass for awhile.

I only rented the original and thought that it was pretty sick. I never got around to the multiplayer, but, solely based on the single player, I'm sure that it's pretty sick, too. I have been thinking about buying it anyway, so, for the right price, I will most likely be picking this up. I'm a little dissapointed that it's not a new game, but I think it could be worth it.

so did PS3 players just get owned again? or is the only difference the new playable characters are different between the two?
why do companies have to keep polishing their original games and not move on?!

What a rip off. I lost respect for Capcom. To think they would pull a Beautiful Katamari.

@GamerGuyX,
Were there original japanese voices? All the media released at TGS before the game shipped was in english, so I assumed this was one of those games where they wanted to give it an "american movie" feel and recorded the dialogue english-only. Does anyone know?

So this game has its own set of 1000 achievement points? I hope we might be able to use our save game from Extreme Condition, or I would rather see this as DLC.

Sucks that it's a remake, the original has some of the best multiplayer out there (IMO).
Shame that we'll only get a few new maps and modes and not a full blown overhaul.
Been looking forward to this "announcement," what wasted potential. *grumble*
