Even though the HD DVD format was thrown a
devastating blow this week (courtesy of our friends at Warner), we're moving forward with our head high and bringing you new HD DVD releases. No bad HD DVD news will stop us from publishing This Week in HD DVD. None! And it's a good thing too seeing that the director's cut of
Zodiac and
The Pianist release this week. Two movies we're sure most will enjoy. We do have one question though. Who thought it to be a good idea to make a sequel to
White Noise? Really? We can smell a direct to HD DVD release from a mile away.
- HD DVD Movie Releases: January 8th
- Mobsters
- The Pianist
- White Noise
- White Noise 2: The Light
- Zodiac: Director's Cut

HD DVD may be 'dead' but I'm gonig to ride it out until it dies. And when it gets phased out there will be an HD DVD firesale and I'll be picking up many of the over 300 titles on the super cheap. That said, I will be picking up Zodiac tomorrow (one of the best movies of the year) and let's be honest, it will still be sometime before it comes out on Blu-ray.
HD DVD till it dies.

Hahaha! Yeah, I'm also on the die hard bandwagon. I don't hate blu ray, but I don't see why they can't just co-exist. I have the HDDVD addon so I'll be able to watch my movies whenever I want, and when they do decide what format is the winner then I'll buy that too. Bottom line, I'm not buying these movies twice.

I just got my HD add-on for Christmas so at the very least I'll be able to upscale The Dark Knight on standard DVD.

What a beautiful counter combo to Blu's haymaker... White Noise and White Noise 2.
But kidding aside (HD-DVD couldn't possibly insert a great new release this week with only a couple day's heads-up), the red camp better start pulling some rabbits out of the hat to squash some of the blue camp's momentum.

I don't like Blew-Ray because I'm not gay and I dare not Blow some guy name Ray (Blew-Ray) and I dislike $ony, I don't have any $ony products in my house expect for Audio CD's and DVD's.
HD DVD 4 LIFE!!!
So I've got a High-Definition DVD or HD DVD, the name fits. Not I've got a High-Definition DVD or Blew-Ray DVD.

Just to toss sand in everyone's vagina....
Paramount might exercise an escape clause in their contract with HD DVD and go back to Blu-Ray, it was reported last night. Also Universal might go Blu-Ray before summer this year. If you've done any watching on the Universal HD channel you'd have noticed that they've started marketing the hell out of BR with 1-2 minute long commercials for the format almost every 15 minutes.

Well this will certainly give a boost to xbox live marketplace downloads as most major studios are supporting the format.
