Trying to log onto Xbox Live but keep getting random error messages? Well, you aren't alone, because Xbox Live is currently experiencing some technical difficulties that aren't allowing subscribers to log in. And that's a big bummer. The flakiness started Saturday evening and according to the Xbox Live status monitor over at Xbox.com the problems are widespread, but are being dealt with. So, expect Xbox Live to be down for a bit and know that even when it gets fixed that slowness and oddness will follow. For up to the minute information about this mini-crisis be sure to point your browser over to Major Nelson or the Xbox Live support page. We have faith in you Microsoft, we know you won't let Santa bring new Xbox 360s to boys and girls this holiday and not have Live up and running at full steam.
[Thanks, to everyone who sent this in]

For those affected I have found a small work around for the issue.
I was experiencing Live problems only when I would load up a game. To fix this I went through the following steps.
1. Log into Xbox Live via the Dashboard
2. Find a friend that is currently playing a game on Live, and is Joinable at the moment.
3.Join that friend this, in most cases, will bypass the the games main loading screens, and try to automatically connect you to that player.
4. Regardless if you join that friend or not you should be dumped into a lobby, and on Xbox Live.
Hope this helps someone, it worked for me on 2 occasions already tonight...

Gaah, I just got my 360 and wanted to play some more halo online.
Bah, guess COD4 on my ps3 will have to hold me over.
Offtopic: I'm looking for some people to play halo 3 online with. I'm
tired of either playing with 1) 8 year olds, 2) people who don't use
mics, or 3) people acting like 8 year olds yelling obscenities. Just
looking for anyone who'll actually use some teamwork and most
importantly, have some fun. my gamertag is ianncannon.

So I'm too "young" for you guys but too "old" for all the rabid crackbabies on live. I feel.... so alone...

Does anyone think this is related to the Sensible Soccer bug from earlier this week? Maybe something is really broken with LIVE??

Mines working alright now.. I played COD4 earlier and it disconnected when I got to the main menu.. I reconnected manually and then played a game, but it was pretty laggy.. I just got done playing a sec ago and it's been working fine.

I pay for this service, I should be reimbursed for down time. I should also be able to opt out of ads on my dashboard. Seriously, is this too much to ask?

I will take care of this one on Microsofts behalf. I am cutting a check for 16 cents, however, it will cost me 39 cents to mail it too you. So send me a self addressed stamped envelope, and I will get it off to you right away...

This kicked me off a good gears session. I had the same room going for five hours and wanted to continue to the late night. It didn't work that way though. My faithful roomgoers started disconnecting and it was not long before I bit the bug at the height of saturday night primetime; needless to say I was very upset. Without online gaming, all I could do was listen to the cagcast and go to bed.

I ranted about this elsewhere, but here's my problem with XBox Live, and being shut out for a while:
I can't play Oblivion.
You see, my game saves are dependent on expansions that were purchased from XBox Live Marketplace. Every time I play Oblivion, the XBox has to query Live to authorize the content. No Live means no expansions. No expansions means no Oblivion, because I'm not playing my saved game without my expansions-- It would be a mess without them.
So even though it's a completely offline game, I have to have a connection to XBox Live in order to play my saved games in Oblivion.
This sucks.
I wish Microsoft would keep their meathooks out of my purchased content. I can agree that the purchased content should only work for the gamertag that purchased it, and that should be something that can be done at the console's level. REQUIRING me to have an online connection in order to play my legally purchased content EVERY TIME is utter bullshit, and it's a hindrance. If my network is down, or if I'm visiting my parents, or if Live is having problems, I'm S.O.L. when it comes to this game, and that's really BAD game design.
Microsoft needs to fix this. It's the only thing I absolutely HATE about my XBox 360, and I otherwise love the 360. I love it so much I'm getting one for my nephews for Christmas, and I've "upgraded" my own console a couple times when they put out new SKUs, just to improve my own gaming experience.
Not being able to use my purchased content is stupid. Tie it to my gamertag, but don't require an Internet connection every time I want to play my games. What happens when the 360 is dead? What happens when Live is dead? What happens when I want to play where I don't have Internet access?
This is stupid, and I hate it.
