Do you live in the United States? Do you own an Xbox 360? If you answered yes to both of these questions, there's about a 1-in-2 chance that you own Halo 3. At least, that's what GameDaily says. How do they know this? Elementary, dear reader. With an Xbox 360 installed base of 7.9 million units in the US and 4.1 million copies of Halo 3 sold in the US, that's an impressive 52% of US 360 owners with a copy of their very own. Furthermore, Halo 3 had a profound effect on console sales. As analyst Anita Frazier noted, "That is why content is so important - a really killer game drives hardware adoption more than any other factor (including price cuts)." So, for the record, if anyone asks you, Halo 3 is the most successful thing ever.

The majority of the people on my list traded it in and got things like COD4.
I personally would never trade my copy in but at the same time I never play the game. Would rather play Shadowrun, The Orange Box, or COD4.

The thing is if you dont have good friends on the game to have fun with halo is not that fun alone. I spend hours in forge and custom games with 100s of friends then jump onto matchmaking for some levels it just never get old for some reason.

The only thing that kept me playing passed the first week was glitches and fooling around in forge/custom games. I unlocked every achievement within the first week the game was out and beat it on legendary by myself in the first day or two.

Halo 3, a great value...
I bought halo 3 about a week after it dropped, for $50 at gamestop. When CoD hit and obsoleted Halo 3 (queue the flaming) I sold it on ebay for $47.
That was a lot of gaming for $3.

Britney Spears sold 14 million copies of her cd one year.
Popularity means shit. I'll take CoD 4 any day of the week... or Rainbow Six...
Seriously though I like Halo 3 but it's still one of the most overated franchise in the history of gaming.

Yeah everyone on my list got rid of it, but either way now its free if you buy a 360 thats how successful it is. Glamorised trash. Mainstream simple gamming for the masses. It dose good for my beloved 360 but outside of that I almost despise what it is and what it stands for almost as much as sony.

and what exactly does it stand for? all the evil and tyrany of the world and the very basis for starving children all over the world? or could it be you're just one of those people that hates anything that a majority loves? its a video game for christ's sake...

I just prefer a more tactial experience in shooters now rather than the run and gun days of old. The only game that can pull off mindless run & gun anymore is Unreal, other than that I need some sort of cover and weapons with a variety of features and specs.

It desirves about half the attention it gets if that, otherwise without it Bungie is little more than some scrub former mac developer that has nothing else to fall back on and would probably not even exist anymore. That whole statement they made about 10 seconds of fun was funny shit and the most scub thing I have ever heard a developer say.

Whatever, to each his own I guess.
IMO CoD4 and Orange box are to of the most overated games released this year. Halo3 was overhyped but I loved it, and I still play it. While I do have Orange box and CoD4, I had more fun with CoD2 and played it alot more, still think it's the best in that series. As far as Orange box, it's a good shooter but should've stayed on pc, it took me a while to even care what was going on, and when I finally did, I was bored.
Half life2 has excellent voice acting and the facial animations are still amazing other than that I didn't care about what was going on, it didn't do a good job in pulling me into the story. Portal is the best thing on that disk, but considering you get 5 games, i'm not complaining, just not impressed. And what's with the cyclops E.T. wannabes? Can you get more crapppy for character desighn?
Call of Duty 4 while good, is the Halo haters game. It's online matching is garbage as it doesn't even try to pair you with people of your skill level and ranking, and while it's addictive and fun, it isn't any more so than Halo3 or 2 for that matter. The single player was good, allthough I didn't really care for most of the S.A.S. missions and I didn't/don't want to play this as much as I did CoD2. What sold this game are it's graphics plain and simple. It's fun, controls are tight, and theres lots of things to do but overall there is nothing standout about it, and frankly I felt more burnt by those two titles than Halo3. Granted, I'm a huge Halo fan, but i'm a gamer first. Did Halo3 live up to the hype? yes and no, but by now means IMO are either one of those games any better and IMO they are worse.

Just got my copy from Gamefly. Can't wait to get started on the campaign. But I also have Assassin's Creed, Super Mario Galaxy, and Umbrella Chronicles. Man, there aren't enough hours in the day.

I think if anything it just proves people have different tastes. Personally, I found HL2 to be enthralling and for once I was amazed that I gave two shits about the characters in a FPS.
To me Halo 3 is just the most fun to play. I think as time goes on, Forge and other things are going to continue to extend the life of Halo 3 for a lot of people. I'm not selling mine and clearly given how many people play it every day and how many copies of CoD4 have been sold, "half" the people out there haven't done anything with it.

Hey Anticrawl...
I just checked your gamertag on bungie. It doesn't show you beating the game on Legendary by yourself. It shows you playing with 1-3 other players.

I enjoy Halo 3 and COD4, so it's funny to see gamers argue amongst themselves to which game is superior.
Atleast we have games to argue about right?? cough ..POS3 .... cough
