November's NPD numbers have just come through the news wire and the Xbox 360 did mighty fine. Hardware sales for November were at the second highest levels ever with the Xbox 360 moving 770,000 consoles. Though, the Wii was no slouch selling 981,000 consoles and the PS3 picked up a bunch of steam from October selling roughly 466,000. Moving on to the software side of things we see that four out of the top ten games are Xbox 360 titles including
Call of Duty 4 at at number one with an amazing 1.57 million units,
Assassin's Creed at #3,
Mass Effect at #6 and
Halo 3 at #9. We've posted a complete numbers breakdown of all the NPD data after the break, you know, just in case you're a fanboy who loves his numbers. The gaming universe is strong young ones, $2.63 billion spent in November is nothing to take lightly.
[Thanks, Charles]

Wow...even with the big price cut the PS3 received it still can't touch the 360 sales.

Man... surprising that they actually released that many wii's for sale in one month. I figured they were saving them to drum up more demand.

And you know the PS3fanboys are going to be alllll over this one.
*meh* the PS3 AAA titles aren't out yet.... *meh*
Yeah well, the last time I checked, most of the PS3 AAA titles are on the 360 as well. Just look at COD4 and Assassin's Creed. The 360 version out sold the PS3.

Having played most of them I would agree. AAA they are not. But they were HYPED to be. And that's the thing. You can literally get a ps3 for the same price as the 360 in some places and it STILL doens't sell well. Even with the launch spike of the 40gigg model, they still can't overcome the 360.
If MS has any brains at all, they'll drop the prices in the new year to coincide with a major game release. Take the extra 50 bucks off the premium.

Yep, good point. All we kept hearing about was ratchet and clank and Uncharted. Those have come and gone.

I bet the PS3 folk are yelling bloody murder at their marketing department. Every single Assassin Creed commercial I saw had a PS3 bumper at the end... and what did that get them? 1/3rd number of units sold as the 360 version.
ouch. someone isn't getting a holiday bonus this year.

There's excuses for that too if you want to get down to it. There aren't as many PS3s out, so the game sales are expected to be less. Of course that kind of gets lost in this cyclical debate because of how low PS3 system sales usually are to begin with.
None of this really affects me, personally. It's nice to see the system I own doing well because I don't want to be in another Dreamcast situation... but beyond that, whatever lol. Make games for it and I'll buy them.

Is it any wonder that the Sony PS3 is having so much trouble when they are still selling more PS2 units every month. Microsoft made the right decision by cancelling the old Xbox. Sony is cannibalizing itself. Even if half of the people buying the PS2, bought a PS3 they'd be on par with what the 360 is doing. Doh!

Microsoft was cannibalizing itself by just selling the Xbox. While the PS2 and Gamecube would eventually be profitable for Sony and Nintendo, M$ would never ever make a dime off the Xbox hardware.
It's not that M$ was forward thinking when they stopped making the original Xbox, they just wanted to stop the bleeding.

I don't think Sony's cannibalizing itself, people willing to spend $150 on a PS2 (are they $120 now?) are not really in the market for a $400 console. Plus if they're just getting a PS2 there are plenty of games that are better than anything available on the PS3.
The only thing hurting the PS3 is that the XBOX 360 is cheaper and better (in terms of number of quality games available and such).
Microsoft learned a lesson from Sony's PS2: There's a huge advantage to being out there first.

if you look at the wii sales compared to 360 they do not sell nearly as much software.people are buying the 360 to play as opposed to the wii were they are being resold on ebay.360 is 4.4...wii is 2.1 and the ps3 1.7.i was checking ebay earlier and they are reselling for 450 550 dollars.if i could make 200-300 dollars for buying and selling a wii i would.i think the fundamental difference between 360 and wii is that 360 buyers are playing and wii buyers are selling.

Wow. If PS3 really is going to end up "winning", they are going to have to tack on yet another year of sales to catch up to since this has been one incredibly lopsided year for the poor japs.
Second bext month EVER for the 360? We're just running up the score now. We even beat the PS3 AT HOME one week? Embarrassing. When is MS going to release a New England Patriots branded 360?

Excellent. Hardware wise we beat the console we are in "direct conflict" with. And software wise we beat everyone (as usual).

As expected and it aint gonna change. The 360 is the superior console it cand handle much more after all the core doesnt do everything theres other things that need to be done computing wise that the cell doesnt handle i could go in depth but anyone with brains knows the 360 is superior technologically.I remember the ps2's chip that could be used in missles lmao and the gamecube stomped it graphically .
Sony loves to claim superiority with magic components but the fact is magic is an illusion.
