Speaking to IGN in behind-closed-doors meeting at TGS, Hironobu Sakaguchi, head of Mistwalker, intimated that the upcoming RPG Lost Odyssey will span 4 DVDs. Considering Mistwalker's previous title, Blue DragonMass Effect managed to hit retail on 3 DVDs, this isn't exactly surprising. Still, in the dark circles of the internet, the announcement is still likely to spark up the Blu-Ray / DVD debate yet again. Note to 360 defenders: the galaxy-trekking Mass Effect fits quite nicely on one DVD.
In less flame-worthy news, Sakaguchi also announced that Lost Odyssey will ship with multiple language options including English and Japanese, though facial animations will be synced to the English dialogue. Sakaguchi explains that many western movies are shown in Japan and that English lip sync is more or less a sign of gratitude to the support of Mistwalker's western audience.

Damn, another gorgeous game I have to get. Seen gameplay and movies on this game. Awesome JRPG!! I'd rather be complaining about too many titles to play than not enough at all. 360 is definitely worth the cash I shelled out for it. 360 Elite baby!!

You know, I'm willing to bet it's probably cheaper to make 4 DVDs than one Blu-Ray disc at a plant anyway lol.

So, you mean I have to get up off of my ass about every 20-30 hours to change discs? That is SOOO last gen! (insert sarcastic, eye rolling smiley here)

I can't wait for this game, I still think microsoft should have originally put HD DVD as the medium for games. Still I don't mind changing discs either. I already do when I want to switch games, from Gears to BioShock. Also, I beat Blue-Dragon and it was awsome and switching disc reminded me of the good ol'days of PS1. Oh the Final Fantasy 7 goodness

You know, after Mass Effect, this is probably my single most anticipated 360 game in the coming months. It's really awesome to see quality RPG's being developed for my favorite console.
4 DVD's? Oh noes, I'll actually have get off my ass once every TWENTY HOURS to change the disc. The horror.

I would think that LO would make you change disc every 20 hours instead of 10! I mean blue dragon did so why the hell not. You have to switch discs everytime you want to play something else. So what's the big deal.

I really don't see switching discs as a bad thing if anything it lets you know the game is long.

anybody else uncomfortable with the main hero's single strand of hair? seems kinda stupid trait to make him distinguishable from other asian hero's. Most heros have scars or spiky hair. this guy has a working hair strand. constantly. all. the time...D=
from a character designer viewpoint, this seems kinda lazy.
comb that shit! lol

Ignoring the impracticality of having 4 discs in a case (2 cases? 3 with one double?) What is the poor Xbot to do 4 years from now when one of the discs is scratched? Well, I'll tell you: Ebay. Thanks to 'da hi-tekniss' of the 360 any game long enough will have 3-6 discs to fumble with. That sucks. Oh, before any of you get smart-alecky, your hard drive is only manufactured by MS, whereas my PS3 can be replaced with any notebook hd. PS3 FTW!!!111!!!1

There are cases that can stack several DVDs or CDs at once. See Blue Dragon or The Sims 2. It's not impractical and is fairly common.
Beyond that, scratching can happen to anything. My old multi-disc CD games still work. It's funny how having multiple discs used to be a major plus point for Sony fans over Nintendo, because it meant their games were more complex and somehow more interesting... and now it's reversed. Who even cares anymore?

hey dipshit,
the secret for having no scratches is to lie the thing down horizontally before playing. and if the disc does scratch, buff it out with brass oil. works for me everytime.
who the hell cares about 1 bluray disc vs 4 discs? as long as you can play the games is all that matters.
oh, wait PS3eaks don't really have a game worthy to play right now? heavenly sword? played that a while ago. it was longer and funner and it was called God of War 2. GTFO and go back to polishing your paper weight.

There's a typo in that post. Mistwalker's recently released game is "BlueDragonMassEffect"? :P
Anyways, I honestly don't care. As long as I get a decent amount of gameplay hours per disc. If I have to switch discs every two hours, no way. Obviously, that's not the case though.

The reason for the multiple discs is that cutscenes are not done "live in-engine".
