No Viva Piñata DLC coming, evar!

Fellow Viva Piñata fans, if you've been waiting ever so patiently for some new downloadable content to hit the Marketplace then developer Rare has some bitterly sad news for you. In their somewhat monthly Scribes column, where the team answers fans' letters and questions, Rare fielded a question about the possibility of some new content for Viva Piñata. Their answer ... not a chance, more specifically they said that "we aren't doing any downloadable content for Viva Piñata because we are much too busy doing something else...". Too busy for Viva Piñata? We raise an eyebrow to that!

Even though we didn't expect to see any new Viva Piñata DLC hit the Marketplace a year after its release, this official confirmation is somewhat sad. But we don't need it, you're fine the way you are Viva Piñata and don't let anyone tell you differently.

1. I finally ordered this game when I found it new for $13 to my door. I have heard tons of people saying its entertaining, so I am hoping for some good cartoony fun.
As far as the DLC, I can sort of see where they are coming from. I don't know how many copies have sold, but the price on the game is falling and falling. Seems like they wouldn't see it worth their while to make some DLC for a game that's $20 new on the shelf.

2. Hopefully it's VP2 that they're too busy working on ...

3. Viva Piñata was great fun, but I don't like the direction they're headed with VP2. A bunch of Wii-esque mini games? No thanks... Rare had better be pouring all it's time, effort and money into the next Banjo Kazooie game.

4. Too busy for Viva Pinata? All of their time must be spent on the Viva Pinata party game or porting VP to the DS.

Do they do anything else but Viva Pinata?

Posted at 11:50AM on Sep 4th 2007 by thisguyrighthere

5. @3 - Are you referring to that party animals game? It's not really a sequel, but more of a spin-off... Rare isn't developing it either.

Unless you're talking about the DS version, but I don't know terribly much about it.

6. I bet they would have had time to work on it if there were more sales. It's a shame that a game this great was pretty much ignored by the 360 community. I played it, a few others I know did, but most 360 gamers only want shooters and sports games. Let's hope that changes going forward.

I'm guessing that the project they are working on is Banjo-Kazooie.

7. Have to agree, I havent heard anything about a VP2, but do know theres one for the DS.. And mini games are really a nintendo thing so Im sure thats what hes talkin about..

I may finally get this one thou.. The demo was alright but I never wanted to pay full price for the game.. Gunna go see what I can find at our Pre-Played stores around here.. (I dont like to call them used.. Makes the game sound like a cheap, well you know the picture)

8. Most of the time you can find this title preplayed for under $20 and in most cases around $10. For $10 this game is a steal as I still enjoy playing it.

9. @3 Viva Pinata: Party Animals is being developded by KROME under license from MGS. Rare has nothing to do with it except that they gave them the IP assets

10. Rare is working on Banjo-Kazooie, Dustin, remember?

11. I liked viva pinata, but the sprite limit totaly killed the game. Just when your garden is starting to look creative, they slap a "too manu object/units on screen" message on you. In order to get new pinata, I was constantly having to destory the look of my garden and remove objects. It sucked so much I had no desire to build any more gardens knowing I could never fully complete them. And its not like the limit is there to sorta bother you, the limit is just way to low. Its needs to be at least 3x of what it currently is.

If they ever make a VP sequel i wont be picking it up unless they increase this limit.

12. Yeah, I agree about the limit. There must have been a technical reason for it.

At least you can create other gardens and share money between them... it allowed me to make certain ones to concentrate on certain types of animals/evolutions.

13. I'm not bummed about lack of DLC, but rather about lack of a patch to fix the well documented glitches/defects...

14. what ever happened to the promised patch that would allow, effectively, online co-op?

Posted at 3:09PM on Sep 4th 2007 by Jeramy

15. Every time the words "Rare" and "working on" turn up I always have my finger crossed for a next gen Blast Corps!

Looking forward to Banjo Kazooie 3 also.

16. I don't know about you guys, but I just kinda fizzled out after a few hours of play... I felt like I had no idea what I was supposed to do, I never had enough money for anything, I saw other pinatas but had no apparent way of attracting them... and the object limit hurt me too. Several times, I wanted to attract a particular pinata, but Pinata A had to eat Pinata B, which required Pinata C, which required a home, which I didn't have room for in my garden. So I would have had to tear down half my stuff and spend an hour reconfiguring just to attract one lousy species. No thanks.

Maybe there was more fun hidden somewhere in the game, but I just didn't have time to find it.

17. @16 I had similar problems but once I realized making new gardens was the "Win", I had a lot more fun building themed gardens (water, aviary, "tamed sours" , etc)
