Space Giraffe and Street Trace release

Fresh for the picking and ready for download off the XBLA are two new gems; the psychedelic Space Giraffe and the hovering Street Trace: NYC. Space Giraffe is available for 400 Microsoft points and includes 100 levels of lsd visuals with Street Trace being a little more spendy around 800 Microsoft points and featuring eight player hoverboard racing. As always, trial games are free, so be adventurous and give them a try.

1. This is a horrible, horrible game. Makes me sick just playing it.

2. I was really excited to get my hands on SPace Giraffe being a big fan of the tempest games.

But after playing the trial I gotta say, this game is best left forgotten. What the hell is going on in this game? The fact that the gun shoots on its own nonsttop really bites the big 1 and when I was playing the tutorial I was all the way on the left side and aiming my guns far right but the game was shooting far left, weak. I wonder how the guy that made this game is gonna feel when the orginal tempest comes out in the arcade and blows this pile of garbage away in sales and downloads.

On the other hand, Street Trace, which is a game I expected to completley suck ended up being fairly entertaining. Havn't bought it though but maybe. A hell of a lot more of a maybe than Space Giraffe.

3. I agree - I was actually excited about Space Giraffe, but the demo really turned me off. It's like a mix between Geometry Wars and a screen saver. I enjoy quirky games, but this one seems like it is trying too hard.

4. Saying Street Trace is hover board racing is a bit inacurate. Its more Hover board Deathmatching.

5. Anyone else have that glitch where Street Trace gives you Achievements?

8. Space Giraffe is the bomb! How can you not like a visual orgasm plus smart bombs. Best 400 Points ever. I never liked Tempest that much, so maybe my expectations were low, but this game realy delivers arcade fun.

9. Both games sucked in my opinion, but Street Tracer did impress a little bit.

10. I really dig Space Giraffe. I guess it's one of those games you either love or hate.

12. I was looking forward to SG, but actually, both games dissappointed me this morning.

13. lol, a glitch that makes you get achievements from the trial version?

14. I got a change to play Space Giraffe this morning for 30 minutes. I can see why people are put off by it, but its probably because it has a steep learning curve. Its not something that you can just pick up and play.

By the end of my 30 minutes I was really starting to have fun with it.

15. Did anyone else notice the really creepy face in the background of the tutorial for Space Giraffe? Play the tutorial again. Its worth it just for the nightmares that its sure to cause you for the next 3 nights. My wife says that its satan.

17. Made me sick. Ugh!

18. Space Giraffe would be a fun game but the visuals take away from it. I purchased it only to find that in further levels you can not see what the heck is going on. You run into enemys that you can not even see because of the distracting background. Really a bummer because I loved the idea of it.

19. I was really lookin forward to both these games, Space Giraffe a bit more because of all the hype.

All I can say is that it is not what I expected. Right off the bat, Space Giraffe feels compelled to tell us that it is NOT Tempest. That was a bad sign to me. Since when does a game talk about another game unless it is a sequel? Didn't bode well. Fired up the demo tutorial and my first thought was, "Where the hell is the Giraffe?". The player icon sure as shit doesn't look like a giraffe to me. My next thought was, "Holy shit! There is alot of stuff going on in the screen. Where am I again? How come I'm not jumping? WTF? I can't see shit." For the record, I dig the face in the background. It's visually a cool looking game, except when I can't tell what the fuck is going on. It kinda reminds me of "Rez" in a way, at least visually. The games graphics are interesting in the way that I wish I had this back in the 80's when I was a teenager and taking alot of acid. Space Giraffe would have made for an awesome trip-toy. But I'm a bit older now, and that's not something I do anymore for many reasons.

I've played the Space Giraffe demo quite a few times, but I can't decide if I should buy the full-version or not. Maybe I'll make a decision later today when I'm playing the demo when I take a break from trying to finish Bioshock over the weekend.
