The Advanced Media Network sat down with Epic's Mark Rein and Cliffy B to chat about their big E3 announcements and learned some sad news about the new
Gears of War PC content. When questioned about whether or not the new campaign missions or multiplayer maps announced for the PC version would be headed to the Xbox 360, Rein said it was "
unlikely [that] we will bring that content to 360". Cliffy B further emphasized their doubt by stating that "
if we didn't have any sort of exclusive on the PC, why would people buy the PC version?". The Epic crew explained that bringing the PC content over to the 360 would be an extremely time consuming task and that they're currently focused on other projects like
Unreal Tournament 3.
Being the
Gears fan that I am it's hard to hear that new, exciting multiplayer AND campaign content will be available, but not for 360 owners. And no, there's no way I'm personally buying a beefy computer to run
Gears of War PC just to experience the new content. No matter how you slice the news it sucks for 360 owners and
Gears enthusiasts ... it's simple as that. Now, I'm going to go cry myself to sleep.
[Thanks, Jason S]

That is bad news :(
The only good thing about the Gears PC version is that it works on XP. I don't have to worry about funding Vista Home Premium so that my wife can keep her media center fix going. It is an additional 1000 points though Dustin..... You know you want them.... ;)

Exclusive content is one thing, but they're adding more to every thing. I mean, 5 new chapters could almost double the game if they were large enough. The original has, what, 6?
From what I remember they also told us there was no PC version being worked on a few times, so maybe this will change as time goes on.

When is it coming out? I mean, if it isn't coming out in the near future, it'll be old news anyway considering all the goodness that is coming to the 360. In others words, I'm not going to care about it.

the originaly had 5 acts, consisting of 4-6 chapters each. GOW pc gets 5 CHAPTERS exclusive. This is like getting 1 act. So the 360 gets 5 acts and the pc gets 6 acts, not THAT much extra content. And as for multiplayer maps that are new, GOW on 360 seriously has enough now. Besides, the pc version comes with a map editor so people are going to make their own, outnumber the 360 maps 1000000000:1. I couldent care less because I expereined GOW a year ago. in september, i will be playing halo 3, not some new GOW content. Then I will look forward to GOW 2 in the future. Now if GOW2 is pc exclusive or something, then i will be pissed.

Dear Epic:
From the 360 community that bought millions of copies of your game and made it the success that it is, THANK YOU.

Well, the odd thing to me is mostly what's the difference? If PC owners didn't buy it on 360, the point of the PC version to them is that they can finally buy it. What does the exclusive content matter in that situation?
It's almost just like "Maybe 360 fans who loved it will buy the PC version too!".

Wasn't Gears of War one of the highest selling games for any console?
Dear Epic,
Thank you for adding more content to the PC market and spending your time with Unreal (which will come to the 360 after the ps3 version).

Now wait wait wait. Mike how can you say that this isn't big time bad news when this is the title that xbots hang their hats on as the game that all games should be compared to? As short as Gears is, it definitely needs more campaign content...and its not a big deal? At least the other guys are pissed off about it. At this rate I wouldn't be surprised if they released a PS3 version WITH the new content. If thats not a big deal then how bout this http://www.fastsilicon.com/latest-news/microsoft-admits-all-xbox360s-are-defective.html?Itemid=60 I found it on Digg.com I'm certainly pissed. I see that PS3 gap closing by the second...

I'm sure you could turn off the pretty graphics and run it on a regular PC. I mean, if you can run Direct X 9 than you could run this, only a little less pretty.

Cliffy dont be a douche. Fighting the big monster thing was promised in the demos and videos, I finished GOW this week and was disappointed to see that the was no battle against that animal. Remember who made gears a hit homey. THis may bite you in the ass.

It's a few fucking maps. The XBOX version will have it's own exclusive content I'm sure.
I have to respect Cliffy B for not bullshitting about their reasons though.

I can sort of understand the situation they are in.
If they announced that it would be coming to the 360, that would probably put off a lot of sales for the PC version, which would be selling at full retail price, while the DLC would have to be a lot cheaper. They may have a lot more potential customers with the 360, but that could also mean lower potential profit depending on the pricing.
Considering that they moved the whole game over to PC just fine, I doubt it would be at all difficult to move the bonus content over to the 360. It's not like they used a different set of tools to make it. It'll probably come to the 360, after it's had a chance to push the PC version a little, which is a dying market anyway.

And why are people pissed at Epic? There is NO reason at all. You were the first people to receive a game that really showcased the Unreal Engine 3 as 360 owners. You will probably see more Gears 1 content down the line on marketplace. You will probably see Gears 2 and 3 before the end of this generation. You will get to play Unreal 3 after Halo 3 has worn you out of its kind of FPS action. There is no reason to be upset at epic. if anything they should be praised for bringing such quality content in such quantity to the 360. And guys, don't let trolls like Titty Pink get you down. His lies aren't even worth reading [Gears of War (main series) can not touch the PS3]. Thanks for the article, even though it had nothing to do with Gears of War.
