Stuntman: Ignition demo impressions

Out of three demos that Bringing it Home has brought us, Stuntman: Ignition piqued my interest the most. Maybe I was drawn to it because of the fast cars and explosions or maybe because Blue Dragon is far from my liking and I have yet to get enough hands on time with Ace Combat 6 to garner an opinion. Never less, I downloaded the Stuntman: Ignition demo, grabbed a soda and prepared for its explosive stunts. So, is this 642MB download worth your time? Read on my friend to find out.

First off, let it be known that this is my first foray into the Stuntman franchise and after playing the demo (and learning what the heck I was doing) the game turned out to be quite fun. Stuntman: Ignition is all about being a stunt driver, following the director's instructions, pulling off amazing stunts, and stringing them together to rack up multiplyers. To finish a "scene" you'll have to complete a series of pre-selected stunts that range from bumping other vehicles to driving under a semi. But every event is scheduled and you'll have to pace yourself, because timing is key.

Before starting the demo I advise throwing on your Xbox Live headset, because the director's directions will actually be fed through it as if you were hearing him through your earpiece. It's a very nice touch indeed. The demo offers up a quick tutorial and three scenes to play including Lava Flow, Escape and the frozen evil that is On Ice. The real appeal comes from trying to string stunts together which can get quite challenging as you'll find yourself purposely weaving in and out of cars or sliding for no reason just to keep the multiplyer going. The game has an almost Burnout feel to it mixed with testosterone driven explosions that make you want to keep playing to achieve the perfect scene. And trust me, it takes a while to master each scene, because you'll need to take a few runs just to get a feel for when and where each stunt occurs.

Overall, the Stuntman: Ignition demo isn't the prettiest arcade racer, but it offers enough fun and excitement to warrant a download. Stuntman: Ignition is actually fun ... who knew.

2. I really enjoyed the ace combat demo. i'm not a fan of airplane games but this was pretty damn good

3. Me too Manvir...that confirmed that game as a purchase for me.

4. Stuntman is hard but really fun, especially watching the replays for some odd reason.

Ace Combat blew me away, my all time favorite franchise ever....

32 man deathmatches online is going to rule.

5. I really enjoyed this demo, espicially the replays. They are the most rewarding part of the game in my opinion because they show all the stunts you in with that extra cinematic flair. One of my replays was especiallt cool because my car accidently went on two wheels. I didn'y releaize until the replay that I slid right between two cars while doing it, so it look like something straight out of an action movie. THis demo definitly piqued my intrest in this game.

6. I thought this demo was pretty fun, but it certainly was hard to get the hang of each course the first few runs. I'm still more excited about Burnout: Paradise.

7. This game is crazy hard to get perfect. Ive tried so hard to get perfect on the ice one. Havent even perfected the other two...

8. I loved the original back on the PS2. This one is ridiculous...I'll definitely check it out when it comes out but as for the difficulty I blew through the first one in 3 or 4 tries and the ice one only took me 5 or 6 tries [And I got the string with 856k on the first and 670k on the second]. I remember this game being a lot harder and a little longer per shot than these two were...

You probably have a lot of experience so the game was easier for you. I know it took me a while to beat the 2nd and 3rd ones. Not to mention 5 starring.

11. Phour ZwanZig: You have to go to the E3 part of the xbox live stuff to get the demo. It wasn't in the newly released demos when I went to download it at around 5:30pm EST.

As far as the demo, I enjoyed it a lot, though I hope they fix the Y button. Sometimes it doesn't engage when you are OBVIOUSLY pressing it within the zone and time alottment. Other than that, I enjoyed playing it with my 16yr old brother (I'm 23) who HATES video games but was able to get into this one. Not only did we enjoy trying to succeed, but we REALLY enjoyed watching our scenes on the replay afterward. I don't think I'll be purchasing the game because of the huge lineup of games coming out this year, but I NEVER rent and this may just have to be the exception.

12. This game was more of the same..it's just trial and error. Some "quick reflexes" parts here and there. But for the most part you memorize the stunt and call it good. oh and THQ should at least make controls better. I'll pass...

Posted at 12:38AM on Jul 13th 2007 by headwoundcity

13. I must say, This title is actually good and its from THQ, amazing. I will have to get my hands on the whole version though to be sure. I thought Destroy All Humans was good too till I had it in my possesion and found it to be repedative as hell. But yeah thats about all I did too was watch my replays, really kool and simple car controls.

14. If the full game loads as fast as the demo I'll love this. My only issue with the original was those really really slow load times. With as hard as it is to get past the scenes those loads killed the fun for me.
