According to a recent article in The New York Times, Microsoft continues to do some damned good business with its Video Marketplace. Business is so good, in fact, that Microsoft claims that the service has maintained double-digit growth every single month since it went online last November. The article is filled with praise from Microsoft's content partners like Comedy Central and Warner Brothers. The true strength of the service, according to the article, is that it essentially hits gamers where they live. As many gamers watch less television and see fewer movies, Video Marketplace places content right where they spend most of their time: in front of the Xbox. Of course, that's not to say there isn't room for improvement. As noted by Josh Roberts, a gamer interviewed by The Times, downloads still take hours and the Microsoft Points system is confusing and annoying (he compares it to carnivals forcing patrons to buy food with tickets rather than real money). Still, quibbles aside, there's no denying the convenience of Video Marketplace, something we're sure even more companies will eventually realize.

I'm in the same boat as xenocidic...altho...i dont get my movies from ROD...i download them online and watch them on my laptop. I have converted movies before from .avi to .wmv so i can play them on my 360, but they take up massive amounts of HDD space on my laptop and they take long to convert...so i've only done that a couple times...
but yea...they need to get on their asses about getting shit to the Canadian and UK VMs. They're just not ACCESSING these markets at all...and the later they get in, the harder it'll be for people to switch from services like ROD.

I don't think MS can do much about the download speeds. It is completely dependent on the speeds offered by ISPs and the plans that consumers choose.

Ditto @#3,
I have Cablevision here in NJ and I can start watching a movie about 1 minute into downloading. It'll let you stream the rest as you watch the movie. The download speeds are really really fast for me.

The points system is no biggy. I'm smart enough to track that.
The real problem is that the content offered is ONLY the same crap that pimple-faced 14 year olds want. (And those who won't mature beyond that point.)
I want normal, main stream content. How about a new release movie that was in the top ten it's release week? How about a few of the actually watched TV shows, (Jericho excepted)?
I just want something I can watch in the evening with my wife.
Video game producers, and their cronnies, must realize that there are plenty of over-30 users out there, and we're not all living in our mother's basement.

I'm sure the Canadian CRTC organization is making it hard for the. In any case Canadian residents should get a discount because we don't have access to a large feature of the service.

Hell yeah I probably have 30-40 gigs of tv shows on my hdd. I don't download too many movies though as I get free rentals at one of my jobs. Last night I did download "Death Of A President"...crazy film. I think the only other film I've downloaded has been "Looking For Comedy In The Muslim World"...pretty good. And of course the free Austin Powers film. Hey it was free.

There are 2 regions for the Video Marketplace, Region 1 - US
Region 2 - Rest of World
Unfortunately I'm one of the many, many, 360 owners (and Gold subscribers) that does not have Video Marketplace yet.
Just think how much better it would be doing if everyone had access to it.

I would like to see the ability to purchase an entire season of a show instead of having to download an episode at a time.

Hell yeah that would be great. Plus it would be nice if we could organize them by episode (maybe have folders for each series)and play them in order. It is annoying how they are in alphabetical order instead of chronological.

Thanks again, talk to you later!

"...the Microsoft Points system is confusing and annoying..."
Ummm how hard is it to comprehend that $1 U.S. Equals 79 microsoft points? Anyone? A 4th grader could do the damn math.
If something cost 160 points, do the math!
If they did money, yes it would be better. But if you're having issues with that kind of math you might want to make sure you're paying your taxes correctly. You might have some problems down the line.

While I certainly don't want to sound too negative. Who in their right minds thinks paying 4~+ dollars per movie, that you can only watch once, is a good idea?
I can pay 20 at blockbuster and swap as many movies as I want out as fast as possible. Until there is a flat fee or MUCH cheaper prices (a doller per HD movie) I don't go near the marketplace. I'm already paying 50 dollars a year as it is!

It would also be great if they would fix it so overseas military could download stuff off it again. We got shafted when they did the update.
