It was confirmed during GDC this year that Blue Dragon would be hitting the U.S. sometime this August. We've received official word from Microsoft this morning that the game will ship on August 28. Yes, in just 61 days, U.S. games will finally be able to play Mistwalker's first opus. In celebration of Blue Dragon, Microsoft plans to make a fan site kit available from the official Blue Dragon page on Xbox.com (it's not available right now, despite the press release's protestations to the contrary). Xbox.com will also be hosting a feature article about the game, though it still hasn't gone live as of this posting. For those of you still unfamiliar with the game, we suggest you check out the recent preview from Eurogamer.

I appreciate that it's colorful, but I just can't get into the bobble-headed childishness of it. I love quirky games, but the thought of playing a team of rag-tag early teens (and I'm betting there's squeaky voices aplenty) just doesn't interest me.
I really do wish games would get more away from the gritty drab browns and grays, though. This looks like it will be interesting to look at at least.

I personally really like the art design. It almost has this soft plastic look to it that I think comes off very well. Really, it's in a market of games where it's almost unique due to its childish looking characters... even other Japanese RPGs on the system are largely going for the more realistic look.
I plan on picking it up. I'm also hoping they bother to release that random dungeon DLC here as well.

Yeah, it's out in the UK on the 24th August. Must be a first for MS releasing a game in Europe before the US. I was looking forward to this game after seeing all the gameplay vids, but opinion has changed recently. Maybe #1 is right, it does seem a little too "kiddy".
