With the demo available for weeks, rally racing fans can finally get their hands on Colin McRae: DiRT. At first we were hoping it was the long awaited video game adaptation of Joe Dirt. Much to our chagrin, this is not the case. Still, it appears that DiRT is a competent racing game. We're told these "racing games" typically involve automobiles which are attempting to circumnavigate a predetermined path as fast as possible, preferably faster than the other automobiles. We're also told that it is purportedly "badass" with the Wireless Racing Wheel.
Alas, there are no other retail releases for the 360 this week.

Isn't FlatOut Ultimate Carnage coming out this week too? My info says 6/22 release date.
But, yea, Forza 2 all the way.

What about Hour of Victory? That ships this week, and it's not mentioned here or Joystiq...And if it's not shipping this week, you can go get a $20 gift card from Circuit City on Tuesday.

My only concern with DiRT is the supposed slowdown.

I was all set to buy Forza 2, until i played the Dirt Demo. I've honesty never been a huge fan of racing games, but Dirt is true next gen.

Circumnavigate means to go around something. You navigate the race track, you don't circumnavigate it. The race track itself might circumnavigate the center of the racetrack - but that would be more typical of Forza, not DiRT.
Geez.

has anybody preodered this and obtained the code to unlock the 10 cars in game right away. I preordered it at Gamestop but did not receive any code.
Also, Forza demo made me sleep, but I keep comping back to the Dirt demo. Maybe I played too much gran turismo.

I snagged the preorder today, along with a code. If you find another Gamestop that has the code cards and bring in your receipt, they will often just hand you one. At least, that worked for me with the Forza 2 preorder as well as the DiRT one.
OTOH, you could just unlock the same cars in the career mode I suppose. ;-)

I just checked the Codemaster's forums, and apparently as the preorder offer is US only, anyone outside the states should be able to register the game at the Codemaster's website and receive the unlock code. Whether or not you could fudge your country of origin, I'm not sure, but if all else fails it might be worth a shot!

Dirt is amazing. Another example of the quality the 360 has to offer.
What slow down?

I've only tried the demo but it is great...found it funner and actually more visually impressive than Forza. It might seem like nitpicking, but I really wish the crashes were not automatically reset as much as they are; I know that racing is the point of the game, but how cool would it be to see your car fly off a cliff at 100mph and actually crashing through bush/rocks and stuff all the way to the bottom? Good stuff, too bad I can't afford it for now

Absolutely second the thing with the resets. I'd like to be given the option if I want to reset my car or just crash down a little while. As long as I am in the boundaries of the level, of course.

I downloaded both the Forza 2 and the DiRT demo the other week and I found dirt not only the more fun of the 2 games, but also the better looking. The environment detail is just fantastic, and alot more exciting than just racing around a circuit track. Also the anti-aliasing on Forza 2 looked pants on my telly, but then I dont have an HD TV.
Still, It was enought for me to buy DiRT, and I am thoroughly enjoying it, I just wish I had enough cash for one those racing wheels now.
Also what is this slow down everyone keeps on mentioning? haven't experienced it with my copy of DiRT
