Mass Effect's official site has a batch of new screens that showcase some close ups of the character models, whilst throwing in some action shots for good measure. These are really coming along and are a feast for the eyes. The faces look lifelike and have amazing levels of detail. Obviously, BioWare is putting the Unreal 3 Engine to very good use for this expansive title. Go check out the screens and tell us those make you plan on picking this up when it arrives in September-
ish.
[Thanks, Tyler]

They're probably as close to lifelike as they can get without falling headfirst into the uncanny valley issue. The guy looks somewhat leathery, I suppose, but still. The aliens, though look damn good.

Gah! I sent this in on friday several minutes after the screens were released!
Nonetheless...I WILL be getting this game when it comes out no matter what else is in competition...even if its halo 3...in which case...i'll get both.
And a reminder: Bioware has said that the release date will originate from their website where it will be clearly released. Any other rumours about release dates are to be ignored.

Damn I can't wait for Mass Effect! It is good to be a 360 owner.
Go ahead SDF...tell us how this game is gonna suck and we need blu-ray to experience hd gaming. Cmon...cmon.
All right I'll stop with the fanboy taunts..for now.

I want this game more than Halo 3. I've played Knights of the Old Repulbic twice through in the past month just to get a taste of Mass Effect gameplay to whet my appetite. I also bought the Mass Effect novel, Revelation, and it's good. I recommend it. I might pick up Jade Empire too, I don't wanna get sick of replaying kotor.

It's games like this that set an example for the rest of the industry. ps3 fanboys suck it up and move along.
After this, is bio ware ever going to return to the Kotar series?

I can't wait for Mass Effect, because if the quality and quantity of my experience of KotOR I and II was any indication, I will play through ME several times with all the different classes.

Mass Effect is the game I want the most!
At the 2006 E3, Mass Effect and Gears of War impressed a lot of people. That's why they both won so many awards.
Mass Effect is a game I've already preordered, and my friends and I will be playing this one the day it's released for Xbox 360!
Mass Effect really does have the best graphics I've ever seen in many parts of the game. And the way action gameplay is combined with RPG aspects, and the new forms of on-the-fly gameplay communication; it's just incredible!

@Jared are you fucking retarded??? Go back to PS3fanboy you tool. Or go cry to your mommy and daddy for some more money to go buy a 360. I'm sorry you picked the wrong console. If you don't think these are in game then you know nothing of this game. Go watch a gameplay video and developer diary vids. Stupid wanker.

Well, Jared is correct, some of the shots are photoshopped composites. I work for a game company as a 3D character artist, and can spot a few give aways. I'm not going to argue with you or point out specifics, but I can see where he is correct in several shots.
The biggest thing to look for is the shots where AA is sampled far beyond 16QX. The shots are also incredibly small for a reason.
