Video: Hell as seen in The Darkness

Literary depictions of Hell vary considerably from person to person. Dante described the 9th circle of Hell as a frozen wasteland, made so by the chilling wind created by the Devil's wings. Meanwhile, Hell as depicted in Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey (truly a masterwork of the 20th century) gives its inhabitants a wide array of personalized punishments from which a sinner must choose. In The Darkness, it seems, Hell and its appearance are completely at the whim of the Devil. In the video above it is depicted as a war zone (reminiscent of WWII) with a blackened sky and withered landscape. We have to admit, listening to the Devil say "this is my dream of you" is pretty damned creepy. Check out another video (featuring Pestilence, one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse) after the break.

Wow, a lot of details. The heads still look kinda annoying when you eat all the hearts all the time. This dude does it to as many people as possible, so maybe that's why. What is the benefit again? Is their like a "Darkness Power" gauge, and it fills it up?

Anyway, the rest of the powers look cool, although the way you summon the darklings are a bit more controlled than I expected, I am sure this is one of the only levels you really notice it. I also like how the two weapons are handled, like when one reloads, the crosshair seems to shift a little. Also, there was a tiny lock-on(for about a fraction of a second while he was moving sideways, than it fell off), wonder if it's automatic or triggered by the player.

Also, I really hope the guy was playing this on "Ultra Easy Debug Testing Mode" because it looks way to easy(although that might be the reason for the four mini-bosses on the way) for a last level(but there were some floating "tips" so there may be more to this, on the testing/debug side.

Anyone else kinda chuckle whenever their eyes kinda caught the end of the text on the bottom.

Man this game looks sick. I want it right now. Why does the head on the right get to eat everything? What about the left one. Seriously this looks amazing, and creepy as hell. I will happily spend $60 on this game.

#3. This is not a WWII shooter - that's even meant to depict WWII (WWI if anything). It's essentially purgatory in the game, represented by a perpetual battlefield, and only one environment from the game.

The heart-eating gets a little annoying, but apart from that, this looks brilliant - certainly on par with Riddick. Here's hoping this is on "Super Easy" setting as well...

#1. I don't think it's lock-on targeting. It looks like they're mimicking the behavior of a laser sight: the diameter grows as it crosses something closer to you, and shrinks for items farther away - you'll notice when he aims off into the horizon, it disappears completely. Pretty nice - aiming and distance gauging in one UI element.

If we're talking trench warfare, then it's got to be WWI. The game looks incredibly easy but I'm sure they just did that for demoing purposes.

Well the lights weaken your abilities in the game if I'm correct. So naturally I would shoot out the lights as well.

Not pick nits, but that'd be a depiction of the FIRST World War. The trenches, the german helmets. Cool nonetheless.

God dammit #3, you stole my joke.

One thing that worries me, did anyone else notice how the two heads fighting over the heart completely blocked his view of the guy firing on him?
