As we're still struggling to crank out perfect scores on Hard difficulty in
Guitar Hero II,
Activision goes and announces a whole
slew of new tracks coming to
Guitar Hero III. Seriously, just look at all these damned tracks (which we have politely lifted from Joystiq)!
- "Paint It Black" (by The Rolling Stones)
- "Cherub Rock" (by Smashing Pumpkins)
- "Sabotage" (by Beastie Boys)
- "The Metal" (by Tenacious D)
- "My Name is Jonas" (by Weezer)
- "Knights of Cydonia" (by Muse)
- "Rock And Roll All Nite" (as made famous by Kiss)
- "School's Out" (as made famous by Alice Cooper)
- "Slow Ride" (as made famous by Foghat)
- "Cult of Personality" (by Living Colour)
- "Barracuda" (as made famous by Heart)
First thing's first, please recognize the distinction between "by" and "as made famous by" in that list. You'll notice that a full 7 of those tracks appear to be recorded by the artist themselves. That's worth throwing up the horns right there. In some more exciting news, Activision has announced that
Guitar Hero III's guitar controller will be modeled after the Gibson Les Paul, and will feature customizable faceplates. Furthermore, there
will be wireless controllers available for the game, though it is unclear if said guitars will be included with the game or if they will be separate purchases. There is one troubling note in the press release, though: the new guitars will feature a new "button color design" in order to create a more authentic experience. Hopefully, this doesn't hinder the performance of the (very expensive) guitars we've all purchased for
Guitar Hero II.
So, what's your favorite song on the list?

Ok I love guitar hero and all, but there are a few things that really bother me....
Werent we promised lots of DLC for GHII? We have been given 3 packs which themselves caused an uproar...i was expecting a lot more...
The other issue is the potential that the new guitar is going to use different color buttons. I know its really not that big of a deal if its just colors and the location remains the same...but still. Thats a major annoyance for me. If we got screwed with a WIRED guitar that is less than optimal for GHIII I am gonna be seriously pissed.

Its nice to see more original versions of the songs, but I echo gibber there. They said GH was going to have the most DLC of any game out there (DDRs one release of 10 songs is more than the current 9 for GH), as well as the fact that we are sitting on $30 wired guitars that should really work flawlessly with at least one more release of GH. Red Octane is just smacking the 360 owners who jumped early right in the face over and over here. Pretty Lame fellas.
Oh, and I guess I like Sabotage

I totally agree with everyone above. People who bought GHII for the 360 dealt with a multitude of issues (whammy and star power issues) and false promises (expensive limited DL content and a wired guitar). Now only months later there is a newer wireless guitar. This is bogus and I personally am annoyed.

GH2 hasn't even been out 2 months and I'm getting tired of the people bitching about the "lack" of DLC. Get over it. If it comes, it comes, if it doesn't, it doesn't. WHO CARES? Look at it this way, you will save your money and MS points if no more DLC ever comes out.
Regarding the wireless GH3 guitars, I could care less. I don't mind the wire, but with the money I spent on 2 GH2 guitars, they BETTER work with GH3.

Zombie, the issue I have is that they made promises they didn't keep. And to be honest, I didnt even buy all of the DLC, i just bought 1 of the packs.
You will be seriously annoyed too if the new guitars use entirely new colors that may throw off your gameplay.

The songs on that list have already sold me on GHIII. Call me a sucker but I would even buy a new guitar/game bundle to get those songs.

New songs: Awesome.
New button colors: ...the hell? Why? I think I'll just buy some nail polish and re-paint my existing buttons.
Lack of DLC for GH2: I suspect it's a combination of trying to decide how to price any future content given the backlash to the already-released songs, and prepping the "GH: 80's" tunes for DLC release.
The metal: Will strike you down with a vicious blow.

What would be really cool of them (Assuming the old guitars work with GHIII) is to include the new colors as a sticker set in GHIII, so you could put them over your old guitars.

IT say new button color design. that means the the buttons are changing design not the colors. IF it was the colors they would have just said new button colors.

@11,
wouldnt it just say "we're changing button design" ?

I dunno "New button color design" seems like they mean new colors. I would think if they were just going to change the fret buttons' design they would have said that. The fact they mention "color" seems they're going to change the colors up.. IMO at least. Maybe they're just going to make the colors not look so vibrant.. like toys ya know? Maybe they'll dull the colors out so it looks better? Either way as long as the old guitars work, I'm fine with whatever.

You know... as long as they don't add new buttons, they could easily write in the code that you have a GH2 controller and change the color layout on the screen to match your controller.
But yeah, if you have to buy a whole new controller just to play this game, that's rather lame.

Ok, so now I am really torn. I am planning on getting GHII next month, but if there is a chance that the current controller won't work well with GHIII, then I am just considering waiting.
They need to come out and be really specific about what they are doing, because they are causing me NOT to buy their current game, and missing out on a possible two sales.

On a side note:
Gene Simmons did some promotional work for Guitar Hero II last month and I noticed that "Rock and Roll All Night" is NOT performed by the original artist in Guitar Hero III. What gives!?
Damn you Gene!
