Bungie's Betalicious Halo 3 video

The day has finally come. No more massive leakage, no more jerky camera videos, because Bungie has officially lifted the veil on the Halo 3 beta by offering up a video of their own. Over on Bungie.net (and kindly embedded above) is nearly four minutes of Halo 3 beta action. It's complete with lasers, shooting, explosions, jumping, equipment items and is a sight to behold. But there is a point to their little video other than just showing off beta in all its glory. The video is also meant to feature Microsoft employee MrJukes (who has the prestigious honor of logging the most Halo 3 alpha/beta games to date) and all his Halo talent. And so, if you're interested in more than the video, Bungie.net posted a little interview with MrJukes after the jump. But back to the official video. Did we mention that the entire video was created using Halo 3's saved game feature? Oh, did we mention that seeing a Mongoose fly 20 feet in the air over the main entrance simply by driving over a portable gravity lift made us wet ourselves? We didn't? Well, yeah ... it's that good.

2. spike grenades look HUGE when laying on the ground.

either the spartan laser is a tad unbalanced or this guy is really good.

jump height and distance are margainally increased.

no lock-on for rocket?

rockets are slower.

red spartan with a white helmet spotted.

despite what some have said;

no spectre is shown, what is shown is a turret.
no jetpack is shown, what is shown is a player dual wielding spikers and jumpinf erratically. the angle confuses though.

that's all i saw

3. Awesome.

4. Looks pretty cool. I hope the final build offers some really unique and untrodden maps that are very un-Halo-like.

Any word if there will be Achievements in the Beta?

5. MAWR LAZR!

Wow... that cracks-me-the-fuck-up.

6. @4

Achievements... in a 3 week long beta?

Think before you speak.

7. Honestly, I've never understood why people love Halo so much. It's nothing that hadn't been done before. Halo has, and always will be, a generic FPS to me. The levels may be huge, but they're empty and repetitive.

And why the hell hasn't Red Faction's "Geo-mod" feature become standard in FPS games?

8. "Any word if there will be Achievements in the Beta?"

i think this just further proves that people don't understand what a beta is.

for everyone who STILL doesn't get it, a beta is basically a DEMO, but with the following exceptions:
-It's larger
-It's unfinished/unrefined
-It will probably have bugs
-It is not meant to represent the finished product
-It is typically very limited, but not so much in this case.

as for the sparten laser i think it's balanced by a long charge time, think of it like a super sniper rifle with one shot that works on vehicles.

can't wait to get my hands on this... less than a week!

10. Ohhhh yes

11. It wasn't generic when it was released, it was ground breaking and polished to buggery.

Well scripted, well scored and really fun to play. Online mp was *FUN* (PC only though for Halo1)

And *still* most post Halo FPSs require you to CHANGE to grenades to use them.

J1M.

12. i like pretty much everything except the horrible voice saying " killing spree", "tripple kill" all the time.

13. I know this has been said a million times, but even in a much clearer video, it still doesn't look that much different from Halo 2. There were some nice changes, like a little more weapon animations and new sounds, and the maps looked a lot more detailed and could handle more objects on screen at any one time, but I'm still a little disappointed.

I'm really hoping the campaign makes up for what I'll miss in multiplayer.

Posted at 7:07AM on May 11th 2007 by Insomnious

14. yea, i didnt see any eather, i guess you have to play this game dayly to notice the changes. " DUDE DID YOU SEE THE WAY THAT ROCK SPLIT IN HALF??!!!! BUNGIE ROCKS!!!!"

15. I hope the graphics are way better in the final. The beta doesn't look to be living up to all the hype.

16. The first video worth looking at, good job.

Posted at 9:09AM on May 11th 2007 by Arno

17. One Word: Unimpressed! Everything I've seen for Halo 3 looks like Halo 2.5. I've yet to see any major graphics jump in the game. Halo 3 is being billed as the end all for the 360, but I haven't seen anything from it to make it be that good.

Posted at 9:36AM on May 11th 2007 by Dave

18. Love the HUD's contour like it's being projected on the inside of the helmet.

Posted at 9:42AM on May 11th 2007 by Brian

19. HALO 2 NOW SUCKS!!!!

Way to turn the best product on the 360 to CRAP! Where should I start, Oh Yeah let's limit the playlist for matches, most now not ranked. It seems when I was playing last night the cheaters got better (as if they needed too) well maybe just more previlent (I though Bungie was working on a better filter for that). Reseting the levels before the beta of 3 comes out! You know right when your winfall is about to come in Bungie you turn your product to crap. Now I'm not sure I'll get 3! Bungie WAKE UP!!!!

20. Stop being stupid for a second people. This video was made from month old footage using the SAVED GAME feature built into the game, meaning textures are lost or just not even there yet, as well as animations not being fully implemented. Besides the fact that I think it looks beautiful, it isn't finished by any means, and the single player is where the graphics are meant to shine, not the multiplayer.
