No matter if you are somewhat annoyed by the black beast or have been anticipating its release since its announcement, the Xbox 360 Elite is officially here. Today, April 29, 2007, is Xbox 360 Elite launch day when retailers can officially put the black console up on the shelves and fanboys all over the US can have it in their possession for a mere $479. Again, congratulations Xbox 360 Elite, we welcome you to the 360 family even if you are a different color, more expensive, have a bigger HDD, and are somewhat cocky (group hug).So fanboys, how will you be celebrating Xbox 360 Elite launch day? Will you be trading up to an Elite purchase or will you simply acknowledge its existence and carry on gaming on your white console?

one of my xbox fanboy mates is getting one, but i'll just stick with my white one for now thankyou very much (which i got for free on teh interwebs coincidentally :O...maybe I can get an elite from there too)!

I perfer black only because it would match the rest of my equipment-- white stands out too much, but because the noise level is the same I really having a hard time justifying buying another one just for the color.
A quieter drive would have been HUGE, as this could have replaced my DVD player on our main TV. Instead I guess I'll keep the 360 connected to an LCD display, shared with my PC.

not worth upgrading for IMO, The bigger drive doesn't so much for me since no games really require any space on it. The HDMI is sweet but not worth ditching my old 360 for. Had it included wireless and/or HD-DVD, I would have bought it immediately.

the power plugs are different. the old 360 brick had a 3 prong(with a ground) power plug. the elite has a regular 2 prong. i think i want my money back.

I agree with Raycer, if it had the HD DVD drive it would have been a no brainer for my bedroom system, unfortunately I will be going to the darkside and getting a second PS3 instead. It is also dissapointing that the HDMI on the Elite is not version 1.3 and that we will not be able to get Dolby HD from the HD DVD drive.

I'm sad, I almost had one! My local Game store told me I can trade it with my warranty and pay the difference, but when I got there this morning they said they can't anymore. They can't send back working units and they can't replace a broken unit with the option to upgrade. Lame huh, well I'm just out of luck....

Waiting until the fall when they start producing 360's with 65nm CPU's. Though I could use the HDMI, bigger HDD and like the black, I don't think it's worth it without smaller, cooler running CPU's.

my current 360 has been freezing alot. i have warranty under it so im going to go get a new replacement and sell it to my friend for 335. so its actually the same price if i buy the HDD or the elite.
now excuse me, i have to go on a phone fenzy and ask if anybody has elite's instock.

Got mine last night at Wal-Mart right at midnight. I didn't think that actual users were clamoring to buy the new units, but I wanted to beat the eBay assholes (as I call them) from buying up all of the systems in order to create an artificial supply/demand problem and make a huge profit. Fuck those guys. Scalping systems shoud be illegal.

They still carry the Hitachi DVD drive. So it's still very loud. I don't feel like exchanging it over and over again like the white one expecting to get a BenQ drive.
I don't really need a bigger HD since all i do is just play games. Demos are deleted upon viewing as are trailers.
The HDMI cables are for Movies only.
The whole point of the white 360 was to show a change for them. I still like white and green vs. black and green.
So, i really don't see why it is called Elite to begin with.
