altho...i watched it last night and was odd-ed by it...cuz they say go to xbox.com/support to order the cable...and when you go there...there's no mention of the cable...and when you ask that stupid robot program...it gives you just about every answer you dont want.

Major made videos for the Elite migration...Gamerscore Blog made a post about the process...and they decide to admit the "DRM is attached to consoles, not accounts" problem (only by the usual "warn customers of problems to not have to deal with them" credo).
Anybody who has ever had to replace their 360 (i.e., more than a million people) has discussed this problem for a year plus, only to be given the runaround, yet for the Elite...they'll come out and say it?
Combined with the Marketplace pricing snafus, I'm considering just giving up on 360 altogether...what's the point of buying Arcade games and Marketplace content, if you're at the mercy of MS as to when you can use it.
MS has avoided acknowledgement of the problems of the original 360, and thinks they can get by just glossing over the DRM problems when promoting the Elite.
I love gaming on my 360, but I'm absolutely sick of MS screwing hundreds of thousands of consumers of their content rights.
Takes a lot of the fun out of it.

i JUST called 1 800 4 myxbox and they have NO info yet when the transfer cables will be shipped or available... it is 10:09 a m friday apr 27 2007 (in toronto Canada est )

Do you have any facts/links to show that over a million 360's have been replaced, or is this just a number you're pulling out of your ass?
I will, however, agree with you the DRM thing just plain sucks, and it should only be linked to a gamertag/profile.

But let's be honest here...anyone who believes that the failure rate for Xbox 360 is 3-5%, is disturbingly naive.
We won't ever have the official numbers because Microsoft refuses to release them. However, if the numbers were as MS claimed, they wouldn't have kowtowed warranty changes to qwell the complaints.
I have supported MS and the 360 since before launch. So while some of you fanboys won't admit the truth because of your biases and misplaced skepticism, I like to be realistic.
While those of you who are mentally weak clamor for numbers that will never exist, just realize that NONE of you can say you DON'T have a few friends on your list who HAVEN'T replaced their 360s.
The failure rate is larger than 3-5%...pegging it at 10%, and calling a million systems defective, is NOT unrealistic.
Just because I can't provide some pro-xbox website link that has "the official numbers"...doesn't mean I'm wrong, and it SURE AS HELL doesn't mean that your denial fixes everyone's broken systems.

I think it's important to point out that downloadable content such as Arcade games are tied to the console it was originally downloaded on as well as the profile used to download it. As a result, anyone who uses the original console can fully use any Arcade game with no restrictions whatsoever. Also, the person who downloaded the content can play the full game on any console as long as they are signed into Xbox Live (which requires an internet connection).
Ideally, one would not have to be signed into Live to use content you paid for on another console, such as a replacement console. However, if this were the case, then there would be nothing to stop you from going over to a friend's house, downloading all the content you paid for, removing your profile from his 360, and leaving him with full access to all the content you (not he) paid for. This would solve the problem people have when getting replacement 360s, but it would also allow widespread, easy-to-do piracy of downloadable content. As a result, Microsoft opted for their current method.
If you have had to get a replacement 360 and are not happy about having to sign into Live to play games you paid for, then give Microsoft support a phone call and explain the situation. They should then give you (via email, I believe) codes or the like to enable you to download everything you already bought on the previous console using a new account on the new console. This will allow anyone using the new console, whether online or offline, to use the content as if it were your original 360.

So here's the situation:
- dead Xbox 360 premium w/ Best Buy PRP
- the fact i can swap out dead 360 for the Elite for just $80 with that PRP
- the fact I can't get said elite until mid-May because of a) finals and b) employee restrictions
- the fact that if i want the data off my 20GB and onto the Elite 120GB, I need it done in-store that day of exchange, with the transfer cable.
So basically, I need to know if I can get that cable without buying an Elite. If I can't, well, that's sorta ridiculous.

If you accept Microsoft's claim that the failure rates are withing the accepted 3% consumer electronics rate, and that they've sold 10mil units, we can safely estimate there are approximately 300K replaced units. No small number, to be sure.

I can't help but shout...when devout fanboys deny that others have been experiencing defective 360 issues on a large scale.
So while you feel that I'm in the wrong, because you have friends with working 360's (and I'll venture as much as a bet that one of them will need replacement within six months), you fail to acknowledge that EVERYONE who has replaced their 360 faces this DRM issue.
When you inevitably have to replace your 360, I hope you think about your dumb ass comment when you can't play your old Arcade games offline.

While you made excellent points defending MS's DRM, realize that you are defending a system that is MUCH more likely to be a pain to honest paying customers than cheap pirates.
And while some have had luck with MS's customer service, that should be the LAST resort for getting the proper use of the content you paid for.
As someone who has been a part of this year-plus-old thread (http://forums.xbox.com/11321592/ShowPost.aspx), I have to speak for them when I say that "we've heard it all before".
Also, realize that while many have talked of the DRM-per-console-not-account issue, MS finally admits to the policy...at the behest of selling Elites.
I find it despicable to defend a company before a consumer, when the company is clear in the wrong.

I don't understand why people find the need to bash on people who are unhappy with the state of things... that is how things get changed for the better!
also to not i have 5 friends with xbox 360s one of my friends xbox is begining to crap out.. another one of my friends is on his 3rd 360 and i'm on my second.. it's obvious that this product however great it is, is pretty faulty... thats my two cents

As a launch day purchaser who is now waiting for his second replacement unit, I can honestly say the DRM-lock preventing offline access to purchased content IS a big deal to many users. I find it extremely difficult to believe that a leading technology company like Microsoft can't figure out a way to "relicense" purchased content/edit the console ID associated with said content. This is a major ball-drop on the part of Microsoft and I would like to see an official comment on whether we can ever expect a solution that doesn't punish the legitimate consumer, either financially or through unnecessarily complex, drawn out, convoluted procedures.

I find it really strange that there are so many people cliaming to have multiple problems with the 360 and totally attribute the problems to Microsoft and faulty equipment... Maybe they are not providing good enough ventialation for the system or clean power to it... I have a launch day core console that is running just fine... I hade the 3 red ring thing crop up a couple of times and each time all I had to do was pop the HD off and power the unit on without the drive... then pop it back on... everything was fine after that...
Also... are you guys who have had multiple consoles break on you constantly bringing the console to friends houses, etc and moving it around alot??
