Red Octane, being very stealth like, released an auto update for Guitar Hero II early this morning fixing everyone's whammy bar woes. The other day, we learned that people's broken whammy bars weren't a result of malfunctioning hardware, but were software based. Red Octane said that whammy bar problems were being caused by a chunk of anti-cheating dev code that they added late in the development cycle. So, the newly released auto update fixes this code problem and whammy bars the world over can go back to whammying. Fire up your copy of Guitar Hero II, download the update, and whammy until your heart is content.
Now, we just have to get Red Octane to acknowledge that they over priced GH II's DLC and fix that whole mess. But we'll deal with that next week.
[Thanks, DeadPlasmaCell]

Why yes, this fixed the problem for sure. It definitely is more responsive for me.

It's a little bit better for me, but it's still not nearly as responsive as it should be. There's just a slight delay for all whammying. It's like the bar has to go all the way down before beginning to register.

I'm glad this turned out to be a software issue. The patch fixed my issue 100%, no delay & very responsive.

Actually, Red Octane advises otherwise. From the GH2 manual:
Excessive use of the Whammy Bar can cause it to break.

If you folks were playing a real guitar maybe you would learn some whammy etiquette!
You can't just whammy all willy nilly!

If you play with your whammy too much you'll go blind.

Does this address the tilt sensor problems some people are having? I know I can't get star power to activate even if I start flailing the guitar around like a mace or even by pressing the Back button. The funny thing is, the sensor seems to be working fine when I plug it
into XP. Maybe they can come up with a patch to fix that next time.

This patch fixed my problem guitar.
An excellent show of good-will that corrective action was taken in a swift manner.

*************** WARNING: GH2 brings RoD - AFTER PATCH ! ****************
I cannot say if this is true or not but sooooo many complaints about RoD after the patch of GH2 can't just be coincidence.

Maybe www.xbox360fanboy.com can get a statement from RedOctane regarding these problems....

Well add me to the list. Downloaded the GHII patch, played for a little bit and all of the sudden GHII freezes. I restart my Xbox and I got the 3 red lights.

The update just bricked my buddy's 360. Niether of us were experiencing any problems with the game and he had played through GH2 for hours and hours--much more than me. No way I'm accepting that patch.
