Oblivion PS3 vs. Xbox 360 comparison
Ahh, video console comparisons. As flamebait goes, it doesn't get much better than video console comparisons. Wary as we are of this, we can't help but post GameTrailers' recent video comparison of the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of Oblivion. Granted, Bethesda has had a substantial amount of time to improve the PS3 version, but there are some undeniable differences. In particular, at about 1:30, you'll witness some nasty pop-up on the 360 version. We're only speculating here, but that may be the result of all PS3's containing a hard drive; Bethesda didn't have to account for a Core version as on 360. There are some other subtle differences, you can see a few more wrinkles on the King's face in the PS3 version and some of the weapon textures look sharper. Other textures look better on the 360, though, most notably the textures of the cobblestones on the city streets.
Now, Bethesda has made it known that many of the graphical additions made to the PS3 version will be made available for the 360 version as well. Hopefully, we'll see another comparison after that comes to pass.
To the topic at hand, though, can you declare a clear winner in this video? Hit the "read" link to compare them in HD.

I honestly could not tell a difference. Kind of disappointing, because we were promised a much smoother and life like graphics engine, right?

I guess they changed some files from the 360 dvd and put them on the disc for PS3 and then it worked :D

One thing that isn't discussed here I think is frame rate - the PS3 chugs -really- badly at times whereas the XBox 360 only slows down a bit. Both versions have fps issues in larger outdoor scenes, for sure - but the PS3 really does seem to have -more- issues.
All in all, yet another game where if you have the choice, really the 360 version is the better buy. Soon you'll get the improved shader code, plus you get all the expansion packs -right now- if you want them.
And the 360 load times as you play the game really aren't that much worse than the PS3 - which is honestly pretty sad considering the PS3 copies 4.4GB of data to your hard disk.

It looks better on my PC as well... even so, this game is seriously Uncanny Valley. The faces look freakish and not anywhere as good as Gears of War.

The 360 version looks like medium settings on a PC, the PS3 looks like high settings. Neither looks even close to maxed out PC from April 2006.
The Emporer's face is supposed to look like the PS3 version. It is bump mapped for wrinkles.
The ground textures might be an AF issue. RADEONs have always doen that better than NVidia.
Damn, this is a year old game.

The person making these comparison videos: (Armored Core 4 and Oblivion) Clearly doesn't know how to friggin tune his TV/Monitor for brightness and contrast. In both videos the 360 looks much to dark and the PS3 too bright. When I first bought my PS3 yes things were somewhat bright and washed but I used the nifty little controls on my HD monitor and fixed it to perfection. Correct the colors then Ill decide which is better. PLus to the comment on not improving graphics, they wont change that much because im sure they don't want to waste time by making a whole new engine.

This is a launch title for the PS3 as it was for the 360. Developers had the respective hardware to adapt the code for on each machine as long as the other in reality. That said, both are very alike but in this case the PS3, (as the programmers themselves have stated) is superior.... and that makes a change.

The PS3 version is better. Better load times, slightly better graphics, better draw, and more content on one disk than the 360 version with Knights of the Nine included in the $60 price tag.

i really dont care what any of you guys say but it is 110% true to me that the PS3 is just so much better than the XBOX360 in mainly every way, the PS3 will soon surpass the XBOX360 in sales by the next year with all the new games coming out for the PS3 and there will be a price drop in July of 2008 (which saddens me because that is such a long time) but overall...
PS3
GRAPHICS: 9/10
SPEED: 9/10
DETAIL: 8/10
OVERALL: 26/30 = B
XBOX360
GRAPHICS: 8/10
SPEED: 7/10
DETAIL: 8/10 = C
i cant wait till the new GTA comes out!
about 6 more months :]
