GDC has Mass Effect demo, books in May

Mass Effect
will be demoed at GDC '07 next week, although BioWare and Microsoft aren't revealing any details on what we'll be seeing or whether or not it will be playable. Fortunately, our very own Richard Mitchell will be attending the event and has now been essentially cornered into giving you a hands on report on what he sees and hopefully plays in regards to Mass Effect. Then again, we don't see reason why he wouldn't tell you about it in the first place.

Also worth noting is the recently announced prequel novels by game writer Drew Karpyshyn, and they will help flesh out the backstory on the Mass Effect universe. The first book, Revelation, will go on sale in May for $7.99 USD. So, will a couple books and some hands-on reporting hold you over till the early summer release?

1. i'll definitely be picking up the book...hopefully it'll be on sale in canada too...so i can learn more about this world they have created and to partially tide me over until the game's release...well actually...i'll have forza 2 to help out with that...

2. I really like how Bioware has been showing off this game. Explain some features, show some in game graphics, tell the most bare details about the story, and spoil *nothing* else. I want to know as much as I can about the Mass Effect universe, without knowing what specific challenges we'll be facing in the game. Every new challenge and twist is going to be a surprise. I love the new dialogue system, the combat looks passable, and three cheers for the company's tradition of embracing female on female homoeroticism in games. Here's hoping for a sloppy make out session with that female stormtrooper.

3. I'm still hoping the game is released in May.

5. I'm looking forward to that book, because Drew Karpyshyn did most of the story of KotOR, and did a great Star Wars novel about Darth Bane, so it looks promising to say the least.

6. "hopefully it'll be on sale in canada too"

Yeah, I mean, Bioware might be from Canada, but they mightn't release it there, ha.

"Do you think it's a good bet that Mass Effect will release in mid to late June? Or am I just hoping for too much?"

No official release date. Could be April or May for all we know.

7. From a pure speculative standpoint, do you guys think that BioShock (not Bioware) was delayed to spread out the release dates of these two highly anticipated AAA titles? Do you think it's a good bet that Mass Effect will release in mid to late June? Or am I just hoping for too much?
